Legally perhaps not. I as an individual am not going to make the assumption is all I mean. My friend was in the mid 1990s so it was a plate, far as I recall I don't believe the placards were a thing in MA then. My brother in law has the placard and as with my friend's situation he won't use it all the time or let it go anywhere without him. Re the ticket/boot, good on you. Those type of people are abhorrent.

In MA at least the placard bears the person's picture so it's easy to prove. The plate wasn't as easy, my friend didn't own the vehicle so if it was ever questioned from a paperwork standpoint it could have been an issue.

Not as permanent but my wife had spinal surgery 2 years ago so I frequently did the drop and park as well.

    As my friend was. Putrid.

    Exactly correct.

I’ve been using a handicap placard on and off now for about a year and a half, and I get a lot of grief as well. Between people parking in the spot that don’t have a placard at all to people telling me I don’t appear to be handicapped or disabled to them, or leaving shopping carts in the spot on purpose.

I’m honestly asking because I see it so often, do people assume that the diagonal lines next to legit handicap spots are like super mentally handicapped parking?

I’m not sure I understand why people do that honestly, it seems like it comes down to selfishness and an inability to empathize with others.

I watched someone earlier this week park in a handicap spot with no placard, this was after intentionally cutting off several cars in multiple incidents over just a half mile.

I really do think many of these people just don’t see other people as someone they should consider. The only thing that seems to keep many inline is not the need for order and a sense of community, but penalty.

I’ve heard estimates that 80% of people struggle to empathize with others in most situations. I’ve known many people who have the attitude that if it doesn’t affect them, they why should they care.

Totally identify with you there..especially re the sense of community versus actual penalty sadly being the teaching moment.

Not to beat a dead horse, but today at Home Depot, by the time I came out, there were 3 carts, totally blocking the exit to the vehicle on the right, which is how most vans unload people.

    Yep. People are completly selfish.
I was in Atlanta today, and store I went to had to put a metal post in the van unloading area. To keep cars from parking in the unloading area. I wish I had taken a pic.
