Kimbo Camper BS and Mods

In a previous life, I had some unconventional recovery boards that I carried on my bike rack - These days I store them in the side flank with a snow shovel, recovery gear, chains...but that's not any help for your situation unfortunately.

 

I don't have a kimbo, but assuming similar lower footprint, I have room to slide a full set of four along the side of my Scout from the rear. I use a bicycle cable and padlock to keep them from walking away. They rub a little on the side of the camper, but I don't care.

 

Has anyone seen this? This woman is apparently trying to sue Kimbo cause she couldn't read the terms and conditions on her deposit contract and didn't read her truck's payload capacity before ordering.

Curious to see if the Kimbo will fit on the upcoming 4th Gen Tacoma. The overhang on the cab could be an issue as well as the new rear coil spring suspension. Anyone have any insight?

 

Assuming you mean the lil, mini spoiler like thing extending off the top/rear of the cab, i doubt that will make a big difference. A 2x4 at the front of the bed would probably keep the camper back far enough to not contact it. But the coils, that will probably take a little while. I know over in the Scout group, folks were having trouble finding ways to beef up the rear coils on the new Tundra. Give it a year, and there will start being more options. Heck, there will probably be way more options in a year for the Taco than there will be for the Tundra, and they've been out quite a bit longer.

 

I've been using my Kimbo in north central VT the last few weeks. Been getting down into the low 20s and I'm getting a fair amount of condensation inside, especially on the back door. I don't run my dickinson all night but do use the small de-humidifier and crack a window. It sounds like you are recommending running the maxair fan. Do you also run the heater ALL night??? Thanks in advance.

 

With the new gen Tacoma the suspension looks similiar to the new gen Tundra. I put these Airbags on my Tundra ( easy instal and have worked great) and plan on doing the same when I downsize to the new Tacoma.

I lived in my new Kimbo from mid July to late September and since I’m in Canada, did experience some pretty cool nights. I cracked a window, turned on the MaxxAir fan and ran the Dickinson all night. It didn’t get down into the 20s, but even with warmer temps than that, I was pretty comfortable (maybe a little warm at times, but it was much better than not using the heat!). I just turned the flame as low as I could and left the Dickinson fan on low too. It was really cozy to go to bed and wake up with the flame flickering.

Had my Kimbo in for some freshening up and saw your baby waiting for delivery!!

 

All day and all night for a week straight…that dickensen is an amazing little heater.

I have some frosty pics from before we got the heater/vent/fan situation worked out…I’ll see if I can find them.

 

That’s what a sawzall is for…LOL

 

Can the floor be easily replaced? I want to run a heated floor under the walk way for comfort and melting snow.

Floor replacement was very straight forward and its simple to increase the R-value from stock by simply installing a slightly thicker piece of insulation below the floor. Running a heated floor seems ambitious, what kind of infrastructure is needed to make that happen? We typically take boots off at the entrance to leave mud/snow there and use slippers/booties to lounge in and the dickensen heater keeps everything plenty toasty.

 

Below is a pic of the door with a rudimentary fan set up to keep the latch from frosting over. This was 5 degrees outside during the day, so it was brisk for sure. We have since resolved the frosting issue so we don't see this type of frosting anymore.

 

I like the entry way for brushing off snow and let wet things drip off. I've looked at a couple of options.

Ah - right, there were a few of us looking into adding this to the upper section under the mattress at one point but seems to me there was a reason that it couldn't be used...if I remember right it needed to be used in conjunction with a substrate (mortar or concrete) but I'd have to look back at the discussion.

 

Why not just use an electric blanket?
