Yeah, unfortunately for me and its next owner, but it will no longer be my problem at that point after I cash out. Not going to fool me twice, that's for sure.

100% I'm not even going to test drive it. Too ugly for me. I'm more interested in the new Ranger and the all new toyota Stout!

Hope i can keep my 21' til i die. Only drive 5K/mi yr.

Now had the 4G had an engine(3.0T 400+hp) like the Ranger Raptor for $58K, i would line up for it

Toyota announced it, no official arrival date yet that I know of. Plenty of trucks already on the road testing and preproduction trucks released to the media.

as for the stout just a few renderings, not even sure if they are official

Me, I skipped the 2nd gen. I recently got a 2021 so I'm good for a long time. Unless something bad happen to my 3rd gen I'm sticking with it.

Yep no announcements or confirmations, the Stout is nothing more than pure speculation at this point.

What, not the one that travels by folding space and time? Who knows, spice prices should come down by then. ;)

The one thing that will keep me from getting any sort of vehicle that uses a battery as part of the drive train is the type of batttery that is used. The new hybrid Tacoma uses ancient battery tech, it uses NiMH (nickle metal hydride). This is the same composition that old cordless phones used back in the late 1990's.

The problem with these batteries is that they develop a "usage memory". What that means is if you only use 10% of the capacity and charge it back up, soon that will be capacity that the battery will be able to be used. In a vehicle that has a hybrid drive train, each time you depress the accelerator, you are discharging the battery. Each time you depress the brake pedal, you are charging the battery. You never use the full potential of the battery.

With this extremely limited use of the batteries total capacity, the battery will wear out quickly. I know this from personal experience. I had a 2006 Honda Civic hybrid that had the same kind of batteries for the drive train. It didn't take long for the batteries to develop the usage memory and from that point the performance of the batteries was drastically reduced.

And in a hybrid motor assist drive train, once the batteries can no longer deliver current to the drive train, it robs power from the engine as it is trying to charge the batteries.

I'll never buy another vehicle that relies on batteries for the drive train. Not until battery technology gets to the point where they last as long as a normal gas engine, can be charged up as quick as it takes to fill up the gas tank and they come down in price to affordable levels.

“Memory” effects are present on NiCad, not NiMH batteries.

Oh, memory is most definitely present in NiMH batteries. As I wrote in my post, my batteries began to die off around 40,000 miles and wouldn't last more than three or four accelerations before the battery meter dropped to zero. I had three packs in my car before getting rid of it. Happened on all three battery packs.

NiCD's are the absolute worst for usage memory. You look at them wrong and they discharge. The memory in NiMH batteries is not as pronounced as it is in NiCD's but it is there.

You should tell battery manufacturers and scientists, then. Any of those effects that actually are present (generally overblown) are very easily managed by software managing full discharge cycles to “reset”

2006 was a long time ago

Here you go...all about how it works and how it is not like other Hybrids that you have driven before. And if your battery does crap out at 40k miles then it is covered under the warranty.

I think the 4th gen is going to be an improvement over the 3rd gen with the exception of the lack of the access cab. The thing that is going to keep me away is the price. I think Toyota has priced the 4th gen so high that it's going to nudge people to look at a full size. Especially if you do any towing. For what the 4th gen is gonna cost, you can get a used full size for the same or cheaper and get a whole lot more bang for your buck.
