Roof and bed rack installed over the weekend. Next weekend (weather permitting - it is December in Michigan, I have SMALL one car garage which makes working on it in the garage not easy) will be the cap rack over the bed rack and electrical for the lights. Yep ,the "Taco Dysmorphia Syndrome" (TDS) runs deep. TDS is my term for the never-ending, wallet draining modification "journey" - there's always "just a few more things" on the list...

Annual undercoating with Cosmoline RP-342 black.

Original 1st coat last year has held quite well, primarily just touch-up along welds, bends, used the rest of can as over-coat .

    If you haven't prior:
    1. Solid undercarriage wash, allow to completely dry, wire-brush any loose corrosion or remaining dirt.
    2. Wait for a non-windy moderate temp day, lay out a tarp underneath between the 4 wheels.
    3. Get some PPE, disposable gloves, goggles, mask. Wear clothes you plan to toss.
    4. Warm rattle can(s) in pot of hot water (to touch, not boiling), when ready to apply shake hard.
    5. Go bananas.

sure, there’s a drain and fill, they’ll be 12mm or 14mm sockets instead of the Allen, highly rec, I put them on all of mine (along with a fumoto)

    Part #s: 90341-24016 and 90341-18060

Also this gasket kit is way cheaper than buying from Toyota. Comes with gaskets for diffs and T-case, I usually reuse the transmission flat steel washers, but you can also buy two of those kits as the transmission uses the same as the t-case

flat washers: T-Case and Transmission D&F
Crush washers: Rear Diff D&F, Front diff Fill
    Copper washer: Front diff drain

Took my taco in for its 25k floor mat inspection. They were fine…
Asked for new wiper blades…54 bucks! And the driver side has a smear on it…If they don’t improve by weeks end it’s going back to get ones that don’t smear.

Pulled a Bronco Sport out of a ditch which was amusing. Also had a "Maintenance Required" triangle light up on the dash on the way home last night. Oil change time? 9800 miles. Can't remember if that is a free thing at the dealer or should just do it myself.

I think they do that every 5k. If you have Toyota care, it’s an inspection and I do t know if f you get an oil change free but yea that light will come on every 5k. It will come on everytime you fire up your rig until you reset it in settings.

Underrepresented yes, but overrated? Not a chance. After owning one, there is no WAY I could go to a baby bed, especially when I have actual truck stuff to do, including hauling. Rented a 5' bed before buying my DCLB, and it was utterly useless for camping or hauling.

New Toyotas come with 2 years/25k miles of manufacturer recommended service. Since that is an inspection every 5k and an oil change every 10k (or 12 months), yes it's free at the dealer.

After driving around with warped rotors for the last couple months, I got around to swapping out pads & rotors this weekend.

Still had quite a bit of pad life left at 81k but I figured it was worth replacing both anyway.

I found rusty pistons on the LF caliper, not sure how concerned I should be. Quick search brings up really badly rusted calipers that are still in use so I'm wondering how bad this is?

For reference, I live in Southern California so rust is usually not an issue.

Do you have to replace rotors that are warped or just machine them? Living on a mountain with kids learning to drive I've had it happen more often than I'd like so we just did a normal brake job on it (that is after driving for months with them warped because I knew it was going to happen again).
I've actually never replaced a rotor so I don't even know what it costs vs. machining (and we drive our cars past 200k miles).

Be sure to clean caliper pistons before pushing them into the caliper.

If you catch it early enough, you can machine the rotors provided they are within spec. At 81k miles, I felt like machining them would be a waste of money as they were pretty bad.
