That’s true now with the 2023s going for >$45k when well equipped, but they still sell.

Camry Hybrid's using NiMh batteries operated as taxis regularly go over 400,000 miles. In taxi usage, it's mostly stop start driving with a lot of charge/discharge cycling. Toyota are very conservative and only run the batteries between something like 30% to 80% capacity and they last for a very long time. They avoid deep discharge and full charging. Memory effect and longevity in general, it's a justified concern, but real world says it's ok.

Anyway, I am not going to get a 4th gen Tacoma. Don't like the huge MSRP increases, near term "shortage" pricing and the wait for "allocated" trim/options anything close to what I want. I put down a deposit in August, I am near the top of the list, but have soured on it. Tundra's are currently 5K under MSRP at my nearest dealer, looking seriously at a lower optioned new Tundra, especially if the pricing continues trending down. My neighbor is looking at the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado so I'll go with him on test drives and check those out.

Indeed. Ford created the 'truck junior' Maverick to still have a low priced offering. The mid size trucks are what full size cost not too long back. With full size now well under MSRP, there isn't much distance between mid and full. Even at well under MSRP the full size are expensive, which means the midsize are really at silly prices.

I am prob, because I like to keep same car. Only reason I gave up my 4runner was because previous owner put it on AH and I got scammed with bad rust on frame... I would have never given that car up if rust wasn't that bad. So now I got new taco and ill keep it for very long time, but yea the 4cyl turbo bs sucks if you ask me. It will be just like in Tundra, they dropped V8 for V6 turbo bs.

The comparably-equipped Gen4 "replacement" for my Gen3 truck will be ~55K MSRP plus whatever adjustment the dealers can get away with during the first year of sale. That price gets you to a full size and is even starting to get into EV territory. Too much coin, regardless of the improved driving characteristics.

I guess it depends on what you're considering a replacement in the 4th gen tiers/packages. There are more available options that didn't exist on the 3rd gen.

Ignoring market adjustments and looking at MSRP you can get an Offroad from $42k up to $55k. People have been bitching for years that midsizes lacked features/options that were available on the full size trucks. Now Toyota is giving the OPTION of loading a Tacoma up as much as you want. The Premium package plus options on the 24 TRD Offroad isn't really comparable to my 19 TRD OR premium. That and how much less does a midsize really cost to produce vs a full size? Kinda the whole reason the domestics abandoned the market a decade ago but I digress.

2024 will be rough for Tacoma pricing and I have no interest in overpaying. I expect (hope) after a couple years of production and high interest rates that the midsize market will have comparable incentives to the 1/2 tons.

Got a 4Runner recently, so I probably won't need a Tacoma until the 10th gen comes out.

No way. I've been holding out for the 4th gen. I won't buy the first year but I'll get one in the next few years.

I plan on getting a offroad with a hybrid max. However, there are a few barriers for entry in regards to EV. Price and infrastructure. Given the price of the 4TH gen (Close to ~60K out the door for a Offroad Premium without the hybrid max), I doubt a fully electric Tacoma will be cheaper. The entry price for owning an EV will continue to be a problem. I own a Model 3 BTW.

Saying the 4th gen will be obsolete when it hits the roads is pretty disingenuous.

If the battery tech can get there is should help with the price. But yeah, being the Gen4 ICE Tacomas are getting close to 60K and you can get an XLT Lightning for low 50's now then there is no way a BEV Tacoma could compete.

I agree. However, most Tacoma shoppers aren't looking at full size trucks like the Lightning. The closest thing (in dimensions) to a fully electric Tacoma is the Rivian R1T, and even that is still bigger in every dimension including price. Also, it doesn't help that Ford dealerships (any dealership really) love tacking on markups.

Then I won't need to roll down the rear window to let the exhaust fumes into the cabin.

My plan has been to get back into a mid-size in two years. That will give me a better picture of the reliability of the new Tacoma vs it's rivals. On paper, a '24 Tacoma SR5 LB 4x4 doesn't offer anything you can't get in a Ranger, CO/Canyon or Frontier for less money other than the brand name, which is nothing like it used to be.

Yeah it does offer something you can't get in a ranger or gm twin. 6' bed. Currently the Ranger and twins only offer "double cab" short beds.

You know the 4th gen Tacoma is only 2 inches less wide than an F150 now right?

    Tacoma Height: 74.6" Width: 77.9"

    F150 Height: 75.6" Width 79.9"

The 4th gen Tacoma isn't a "small easy to park mid size truck" anymore, in the real world it's effectively the same size as an F150.

When an F150 lightning is the same price and is getting 462HP and 775 lb/ft of torque with 70 MPGe it's not disingenuous to say the 4th gen is obsolete at its price point upon release.

    Shit's a $34k truck masquerading as a $50k truck.
