Alternator / Charging Issues

Thanks JAGCanada. I should have changed the Serpentine belt long time ago but kept putting it off. I know the work is not hard but I personally don't have the confidence or time. Don't understand why engine would die tho because of a worn out belt then I definitely would have changed it long ago. I'm still suspicious of the alternator even tho dealership and another mechanic told me its fine.

 

You should be suspicious. The battery light typivally comes on when the volts get too low. Top reason for that is alternator going bad . Maybe it is intermittent, as that is not uncommon.A slipping belt can do this, but usually see the coolant temps rise as the water pump and fan also slip. Slipping belts are typically from bad tensioners and not bad belts. The belts tend to work untill they snap.

 

ya there was also a lack of coolant fluid in the system due to leaks but the heat never increased or decreased. I guess I will see once I get the truck back which is god knows when cause for some reason the delaership can't get the parts. update: Toyo Tech agreed that alternator could come in and out on it's way to alternator heaven.
