Since I haven't installed anything (that's likely this weekend), I haven't tried it in car. I am just trying this on my desk. It's possible that with the car power, this will be possible no issue.

I have that usb/hdmi cable installed. I don't have it going to the rr2, but honestly, what would be the point? Once you have it programmed the way you want, you'll likely never touch it again. Also, I have intermittent disconnects with that cable, so it's not very reliable. Lastly, the RR and RR2 can be very picky about the usb cable you use to program it. I've tried other cables before and end up using the supplied cable for programming.

Yeah, I might be overthinking this too. Once I get things set, I'm not sure how much changing it will be.

I also agree it seems to be finicky. I had success with a number of USB A to C cables. I was able to get my A to A to USB OTG to work. It was just introducing this USB harness in the middle that raised issues.

Cool. It's weird because it's just a usb cable, so I don't understand how anyone can screw it up, but chinese engineered stuff isn't always reliable. Unfortunately, no one in the US will bother making this kind of cable. One day, I'll buy a second cable just to take it apart and rebuild it. I assume the solders are bad and just need to be redone.

Only thing you really change if you want too are the button layout . I left everything as is and didn’t lose anything on the middle display.

It's the USB cable in that HDMI/USB port. I have an Amazon Basics A male to A female (extension) and it works fine between the male A to male A and USB OTG. I can program the Maestro without a hitch. So clearly it is this cable. So it goes, its not a huge deal, just was hoping.

Great write up!! Thanks so much!!

Do you know if you're able to keep using the stock Sirius antenna and receiver or had to get a new one to use Sirius via the head unit?

I cannot answer that. From what I purchased at least doesn't appear that it could be used no. BUT than again all I know is what they said I needed. Whatever I have works just fine.

So a few things this morning. First my biggest issue:

I went to install my DMX1037S with the Maestro RR2. I am using the HRN-HRR-TO3 wiring harness. And when I pulled out my non JBL system - there are 4 wires connected, but the instructions only show 3 wires connected! Step 3 below. The crazier thing is that 2 Tacoma harnesses match the 28 pin harness! So I was able to get power to the stereo, but some stuff didn't work right. iDatalink's support is no up on the weekend, so I wait for that support. But I wanted to contact here to see if anyone had any ideas?

And this harness didn't work. Wrong fit. Though I did search a little - iDatalink makes a harness that is supposed to work:
    ACC-SAT-TO2

3 wires, supposed to be the satellite and GPS antenna adapters.

4th would be either the mic or the usb/aux port underneath the hvac. both of which that diagram indicates aren't used.

So there are 9 total connections on the OEM unit. On the top row I think it goes:
    Blue - Mic?
    Gray/Gray - USB?
    White - Satelite/GPS
    Gray - Satelite/GPS

    2023-12-16 20.51.51.png

    Bottom Row (upsode down)
The left - that's the antenna
The cluster of 3 28+ pin connectors and the black connector are the ones that plug into the harnesses. But that leaves me 1 extra connector.

Just went and tried this again. On that big cluster:

    White - 30 pin
    Black - 28 pin
    Gray - 28 pin

Only the white and gray are used the black is left hanging.

Because I’m missing the GPS and Satellite radio cables I’m not yet ready to put this all in, but I’m close.

Also - had a camera issue, but that was solved when I changed the camera input (back to NTSC, the old camera was HD). So we appear to be cooking with gas.

i guess i'm not understanding the concern. having extra plugs isn't really a 'problem', it's just stuff that either can't or isn't being integrated into the new radio installation.

as with any change between equipment, there's always going to be something that doesn't jive, the important part is that the functions you require still work, or the new equipment offers a solution(for instance, a compatible mic for call functionality) to maintain the functionality you require.
