Fluids are basically the same as 3rd gen, 0W20 oil, WS transmission fluid, SLLC coolant, LF transfer case fluid, etc.

Oil change is 10k/12mo. Differential fluids are 15k/18mo. if you tow.

 

Base model gets a temporary spare inflated to 60 psi on 4.5" wide rim:

 

Good to know for when I take the Tacoma to the race track to let it idle for a minute before shutdown.

 

People on the tundra forum were freaking out about this......but honestly who is running wide open then coming to a complete stop and turning off the engine?

 

Pleas dear Lord.....do not let the Taco Bros start putting high lift jacks across their hoods......The Jeep Bros do not need any competition!

 

Interestingly the maintenance booklet wants you to add a bottle of fuel treatment every 5k/6mo. if in Hawaii. Same with the 2024 Highlander. The turbo engine may be more sensitive to water in fuel.

 

To be fair, the fine folks on the Tundra forum freak out about ANYTHING.

I thought the pissing contests here were bad, but some of those peeps moan on that forum incessantly about the most trivial, first world crap you can imagine. Unreal.

 

Even with a lift and 33s, bottle jack works wonderful with couple pieces of 2x6s.

See so many folks driving around with that thing bolted on…

 

Doesnt seem that hard to do. Imagine driving the turnpike at 70-75mph for a while and then pulling into a rest stop right off highway. I could see that happening. Dont get me wrong, its not like its a major life inconvenience to idle in the parking lot for one minute (max) but its something owners will have to keep in mind.

 

Does the vehicle display turbo temp?

 

My 22 did not, doubt they made changes since then.

 

I'm both surprised and disappointed in Toyota engineering that you have to idle the truck before shutting down after continuous driving over 62 mph. They refer to it as "race track driving" lol. No, that is getting stuck behind grandma trying to exit so you can take a piss driving. Then you have to sit there for the longest minute of your life dancing in your seat hoping you make it to the john lol.

Not kidding, this is inexcusable IMO. People nowadays have the patience of a 3-month-old Golden Retriever puppy. No way will they do this. It's like Toyota built in an automatic excuse to deny warranty repairs on your cooked turbo bearings.

 

After watching the Chevy 4 cyl turbo engine video someone posted the other day, I am much more impressed with their design. They get the higher torque and horsepower without the addition of the added hybrid complexity. The only problem with the Chevy is I could see that torn down engine on the bench being the one from my truck when I make periodic visits to see it at the shop lol.

 

On pg. 302 they mention a Start & Stop system. Haven't heard anyone mention that being on the 4th Gens. Think it will be on them or maybe it is only on the hybrids and that is why no one has noticed it yet?

Also trying to figure out if the MTs will have remote start and the keyless entry or not, will keep digging in the manual.

 

I wonder about that. What is the purpose of the fuel additive? To scavenge moisture in the fuel? To help keep the fuel system clean? Ethanol addition probably adds much more moisture than any other refined component. Maybe tank storage or transport characteristics? Or deficient additive packages in gasoline? As for wet conditions during storage and transport, what about the Pacific NW? I would be most interested, as a person who worked in refining, to understand this recommendation What issues have been observed in Hawaii that prompted this recommendation?

My Toyota tech in Tucson told me to do it twice a year to keep the injectors clean.

I have Toyota do the fuel system clean on my 3rd Gen because of the DI. iirc it is $100. Peace of mind as I plan on keeping it for as long as possible now since they killed the AC. Still getting another truck next year, but keeping the 3G for my wife.

 

Unless you’re cool with paying for repairs, buying an out of warranty Toyota and having peace of mind, those days are over.

 

I'm surprised they have 10k oil change intervals for a turbo. Not trying to start an oil debate but every video I've seen in terms of how to get the most out of a turbo engine says to change every 5k/6 months.
