Best tonneau cover?

Where would a person get the best deal on a retrax ? probably the mx...... 22' tacoma 5 ft bed

Not sure who else has one but my Access roll up cover has been excellent. Really enjoy having full use of the bed when rolled up and looks great rolled up as well (to me anyway).

 

Access covcer are great choices especially for Tacoma's in a soft rollup

 

How do you like the Retrax mx so far? I'm in the market for a cover and have been debating between something like the Backflip/Lomax and the Retrax. The latter looks like the perfect fit since I'll need to lock it and I love the idea of it rolling into the housing. The Retrax pretty durable? Easy to open?

Ideally, I'd like something that'll be moderately weatherproof, durable, lockable, but also low maintenance without breaking the bank, so that one might be the right fit.

I’ve had an Access cover on a couple different trucks over the years. Really like them. The one on my F150 is 10 years old, no issues. Just installed the orig Access cover in my 2023 Tacoma.

just my 2¢…..I had a Retrax on my Ram 2500. Absolutely loved it. Opened and closed smoothly. Fit and finish was way better than my Dad’s RollBak he had on a Silverado. But there were times I wish I had the ability to use the full bed or quickly remove the cover. My Dad sold his RollBak and got a full access trifold. Was nice to be able to quickly remove it or fold up against the rear cab and have all the room if needed.

 

Just got a Bakflip MX4. All sorts of ‘little’ quality control issues with it: dented rails, chipped paint and aluminum flashing all over the place. For the price I paid, I certainly expected better. Luckily the warranty will take care of it. Anyone else have these issues? It’s made in the US…apparently, lol.

 

I just got a 2023 Limited and the very first thing I did was get a bakflip mx4. Very happy with it. It is not completely waterproof, but I think that is to be expected. I have the Tacoma rubber bed mat and what water I do get tends to run under the mat in the bed grooves which is helpful. There are a few bakflip install videos on youtube which made it super easy. Would highly recommend this tonneau cover.

 

Sounds similar to the one I recently received. Sticker on box had production date of November 14, 2023.

Aluminum shavings throughout the rails, drain spout not flush on the passenger side so I couldn't mount the rail at first (off over 1" but was able to move it inwards hitting it against the bed a few times) and a few other things.

 

Its pretty common unfortunately... their customer service is usually happy to correct it.

 

I spent the money on a Retrax Pro my my DRW and regretted it once winter hit and it became unusable when snowy and icy

 

I really like the stock tri-fold cover. Not the canvas one the plastic one. It doesnt fold all the way up tho which is kinda annoying.

 

I can see that being an issue, luckily not much snow in SoCal.

 

TLDR Thread: Is there an aftermarket tonneau cover that will use the factory tonneau cover pins?

 

Not that I've seen. I just sold my factory tonneau removed the pins and swapped the bed rail caps. I haven't seen any other company using the Toyota pins. If you're not using OEM, you might as well pull that hardware and sell it to the poor guy who bought the OEM but didn't get the hardware.

 

I am in the market for a folding or roll up cover for my 2023 with a 6 ft bed. What are some favorites out there? It came with great Undercover Elite solid cover. It is less than a year old but doesn’t fit my needs, would be glad to unload cheap!
