Gen 3 Tailgate for Gen 2 Taco

Does a G3 tailgate easily swap with the G2?
I know the G3's have a been upgraded to lock,
not sure what integration challenges this brings up, any ideas?
Any other pros and cons?

No, it’s not a direct swap. I have both in my basement to put the 3rd gen TACOMA stamping on a 2nd gen shell. I am in the process of cutting the stamped section out and grafting it into the 2nd gen tailgate.

 

^^^That’s the end result that I’m going for if I ever get to it. 3rd gen donor is cut and waiting to be patched in.

That looks so wrong!! It doesn’t match body contours. If anything, swap it all: bed, fenders, bumpers, grille, hood, headlamps, and door handles.

 

That would be so confusing for the poor thief that is stealing Tacoma tailgates and putting them on Craigslist. "FSBO, Tacoma tailgate fits '05-'23, sort of kind of. Make offer, or don't. either way. I have no clue what I stole"
