    I had no idea!!

    New hoses too
I swear, the rubber Iac gasket bonded to the aluminum housing. I didn’t go crazy, but red Brillo/220 grit/razor got it done
I also took awl and cleaned out the gasket grove. Like a 1/2 teaspoon of white powder cleaned out

Now LCE…..please send me injector cups

Looks brand new! Why they used those screws on the IAC I’ll never understand. Maybe as a sick joke to those of us that strip them out. Same with the oil pump cover.

    Agreed!

I was 17yrs old when I bought that manual impact tool(at the advice of some OG mechanic)
Phillips screws on Suzuki clutch cover was the task
    Works every time

Vice grips if the screw heads strip out and they’ll come out. Replace with hex head and be done with it. Found on this site and used myself. And if you are gonna go deeper then do the entire intake to the block. Most definitely check the EGR port where it goes into the intake. Mine was half restricted with carbon at 140k. Think that can relate to the cylinder 3 head gasket failure issue if I understand correctly. Throttle and intake had black gunk 1/8” thick throughout. Clean as a whistle now and runs like a scalded monkey.

Mine at 150K also carboned up......and had head gasket woes....

are they related.........you feel lucky.....cause I WAS NOT...

deleting EGR...or poor maintaining ...can be the mistake of your lifeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

And Control car......excellent write up......thankyou......for taking the time....
.....there are way too many......that just run these trucks into the ground...
........although that's the biggest source of these ....in my observation....

I also use that old fashion manual impact drive left over from my motorcycle days......all the time.........I even bought the mini one from HF.....that and a little heat is a killer combination....has NEVER let me down....
.....If you've ever had to split engine cases.....you already know.....

Silver is the real help. I study under him. The port is where the egr valve bolts to the intake plenum, under it between the bolts. It’s like a 3/4” hole and mine was reduced to about 1/4-3/8” by carbon build up. The plenum is what the throttle body bolts to. It’s on the firewall side on my 2.7, think it’s same on your 2.4 but no, not in your picture. I didn’t take pics of the port blockage in mine but circled in the area below, not where my finger is, that’s a sensor. I got a thread here showing cleaning all that intake plenum. Gleaned it from earlier posts so no attempt to plagerize.

My intake cleaning towards end of this thread link if it helps:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/iac-tps-advice-96-2-7l-4wd-mt-143kmiles.780248/

Previous guidance I found didn’t mention need to disconnect fuel rail line, stressed over that needlessly as it proved to be easier than I expected.
I ended up replacing iAC and TPS with oem to resolve high idle. Silver had warned me in the thread above before I put in aftermarket but I didn’t listen. Purrs at 700rpm now. Didn’t need any throttle body work. Good luck.

My protege'.......remember, If I tell you the ship's on fire, jump.
    Run like hell.

In all seriousness, be careful with that egr temp sensor, a new one is like $160. no kidding.

I used 3 cans of oven cleaner cleaning that plenum, and that yellow awesome stuff from dollar general to wash the carbon foam off...and couple bottle brushes...

when you insert those cups, it hard to get those in there without rolling that o-ring.

I havent done it myself, the mexicans did mine, but there are number of threads on commenting on how hard those were to do.

Lube em, warm them up, dont know, but I would carefully proceed with those.

NOw watch, you want even a bit of trouble, just my luck.
