Damn. I waited so long for this but no way I’m dropping 4 grand on a bumper (and that says “special introductory price”). Even 3k would be pushing it IMO. I know a lot of R&D probably went into it, but that’s just ridiculous to me. Wonder how many people are actually dropping that.

I agree with you on that. 4k is steep. If it was like 3k I'd consider it.

I guess they figured they have about 6 to 8 months to recoup their development cost before this becomes an irrelevant mod on a discontinued truck but I think the price makes it irrelevant even today This should have been brought to market at least 2-2.5yrs ago for it to have made sense.

There are still over 1 million tacomas on the road. The issues isn't the customer base, but the fact that the tire carrier will only hold up to a 33" tire when the spare under the bed will hold up to a 31.6" without any modification.

You can fit 33s under the bed too.

I was really looking forward to this, but not for only a 33" spare. And not for $4k.

The key terms were "without any modification"... to fit a 33" you need to hammer/bend the spare guide arms and it's highly recommended to chop the exhaust, to avoid melting your spare.

cool, does that mean you’ll buy this? I’d rather cut my exhaust (and lots have) and do some hammering than spend 4k. I could buy two bumpers at this price and also if I really wanted the BSM, I could do so. There’s a thread around here where a guy’s figured it out.

Both statements were true. The modifications to fit a 33 in the stock location are significantly less than a full bumper replacement. The exhaust pipe near the spare has been measured at safe temperature levels for the tire without modification. Vulcanized rubber is incapable of melting(Just to be pedantic).

Hell no! That Apogee bumper is ugly AF. The way it sticks out past the fenders to support BSM is ridiculous... not to mention the price... and the fact that I have an RCI bumper, chopped my exhaust and ditched BSM years ago...

I’m still interested, but maybe because I like to be curious on new things haha. A little out of my price range

    Price drop to $3,600
But that's still $5,200 CAD after tax, local pickup.

    Edit:
The price aligns with other single and dual swingout bumpers out there.
Here are just a few; I was mainly interested in Apogee, CBI, C4, and BAMF. Needing to allocate extra for painting / coating puts all these pretty close together price-wise.

    Single
C4 high clearance, no options, bare steel - $3,400
Coastal Offroad Kit (comparing apples to oranges) high clearance, no options, bare steel pieces - $1,578 CAD

    Dual
All-Pro high clearance, no options, bare steel - $3,200
Backwoods Hi-Lite high clearance, no options, automatically comes powdercoated - $3,550
BAMF high clearance, no options, bare steel - $3,446 CAD
CBI high clearance, automatically comes with tire carrier, bare steel -$3,000
Coastal Offroad Kit (comparing apples to oranges) high clearance, no options, bare steel pieces - $2,066 CAD
ExpedtionOne non-high clearance, no options, bare steel - $2,490

I like what Apogee is doing, but to be fair it’s not a high clearance bumper. For reference the BAMF standard bumper with dual swing out is $2,495. Not sure about the others.

It's been awhile since we dropped in here so figured we could add some information.

Cost - The price has been dropped to align more closely with our competitors. We also recently had a $200 off sale on top of the new pricing. We will continue to run sales as best we can. And as stated, it comes powder coated and supports BSM, which none of the competitors with swingouts have.
Tire Size - We've done more testing and the 33" max tire size suggestion has been removed! The tire carrier is plenty stout for the common sizes people are running on Tacomas.
Appearance - The pictures posted earlier are for our V1 Bumper, we have tightened the sides up some to keep them closer to the body lines. We still had to design around the OEM BSM sensors so it's not as flush as some bumpers out there, but for many people it's worth it to retain the BSM system.

In regards to cutting exhaust, and doing your own BSM system. It is all totally doable, but we wanted to make a product for the general public who probably doesn't want to do those things.
