Keep your eyes peeled for used, a lot of times you can find some pretty good deals from people wanting to upgrade to bigger

That kinda means, when read from a certain lens, "I'll bring some stuff over any time you need, Darin!" :) Yeah? :D :D

Sounds perfect for what I could ever really use at such a small place. I want something to carry stuff around (mulch, livestock feed, gravel, etc), something to mow, and I'd love a back hoe to help me dig water features and septic trenches as much as possible (realizing a bh on a subcompact won't have enough reach for the tank).

I'd recommend something like the Kioti CS line of tractors.

Used market for tractors is supposed to be pretty good right now. In part because the new market is rather slow and several manufactures are offering very low financing rates. I'd start with seeing what dealers are close to where you live. Say like within 50 miles or so for Kioti, Kubota, John Deere, LS, Mahindra, New Holland to name a few reputable ones. Go visit them see what they have to offer, then search the interweb/online for used tractor of whatever model you like the best. If the deal for a new one is good enough I'd go that route for the warranty, but if the discount for a used one is enough and you have the cash go for a good used one.

I went all in on the top end last night on the other Hustler with the Kohler.

    IMG_1163.jpg

This is the side with the lower compression #'s. Looks like it was leaking a little, not as bad as I thought it would be though and the carbon build up really isn't bad either.

This is the side with the higher #'s, it looks almost the same.

This is where I left it last night, ordered some gaskets online. Got to borrow a valve spring compressor from my dad so I can give it all a good cleaning.

Need to do a little welding on the electric clutch bracket.

    Supposed to look like this.

@koditten this one has the speed advance module on it, do these give problems? I found a conversion kit that eliminates it.

You can tell those are original head gaskets. The upgraded version is much wider. This is a good thing. You now know no one else has been in the motor. I cringe ever time I get a motor that has had a head gasket already replaced. Ive had 3 that the head bolts were overtightened and the studs were stripped out.

I've not had problems with engines with the spark advanced modules, my own mower has the SAM system and it runs fine.

The SAM system is supposed to give the engine more power and help with starting. I do know mine starts amazing! I can't tell you if it's the SAM system or just a very good carb tune.

The Kohler shop where I get my parts from has a tech that works the parts counter. Formerly he was a mobile Kohler tech. He told me he always kept a SAM upgrade kit on his service truck. I've been meaning to look up the kit. I was just assuming it was a pair of normal coils.

The 1st time I saw a SAM system I was really confused. There is an extra positive 12v wire going to the coils. I'm thinking how is this not burning up the coils?!

Took me a while to figure it out.

I know I can search it on bing but I'd rather ask someone who works on them, what do I torque the head bolts and rocker arms too?

The service manual says 100 inch pounds. I do 85. I have beam type torque wrench so I go light to be safe because I've never had it tested.

love my Kioti!! KR that last payment comes out on mine Friday!
about to hit 300hrs on her! been an absolute beast of a tractor!
300hrs in 5yrs doesnt seem like much, but my stuff isnt just put around stuff. its hard tractor work, all hogging, brush clearing, stump grinding & gravel/dirt moving.

average about 2hrs everytime its used for hogging or clearing. 4hrs on stump grinding.

lots of tractors for sale right now too!

What are of Utah are you in?

Same here about moving snow last winter. It's the main reason we have the kioti. Long, steep blacktop driveway with a dropoff on one side.

Who’s running a rear 3 point quick hitch attachment? Pros or cons from the people using them?

i live by the quick hitch!

if you are a 1 man band & do lots of different rear things? its a must!
i run a good heavy duty version thats rated for my tractor. its a LandPride BH10.

    the only drawbacks are:
    1. if you are using a super high torque attachment on a monster tractor.... it can be a break point
    2. sometimes depending on brand.... they make your attachment farther away & you need a longer shaft.

never had a problem in my home use. love the quick hitch.
