I do think Toyota overshot on price, but I'm not so sure they're even happy with how high the MSRPs are. I think the design team was a bit too ambitious in trying to address shortcomings of the platform. Many of the improvements over the 3rd gen are definitely costlier.

We'll see as the platform ages if they can limit price growth and move more features down the trim levels and into base packages.

Depends what level of Fox it is. Is it their entry level OEM crap, or are we talking reservoir coil overs with additional bypasses, upper and lower control arms?

Think it was a damned if you do damned if you don’t scenario, Customers have been whining about major upgrades for what decades? And now that Toyota delivers, they don’t want to pay for it. However they still do have a “basic” economical truck. But we aren’t seeing people on here building that, are we? Instead we are seeing people fussing over creature comforts and their costs. While a simple 2WD SR, would be more than enough for the majority of buyers. Won’t break the bank either.

Can anyone tell me which year the TRD trims get power seats standard again?

It was a bit of a joke, desert LT guys should get it. Because Pro suspension is pretty much a joke for real desert running. Even what I posted is kind ho-hum and quite limited once the whoops get any bigger than a foot deep. But I am from the mindset of it is either a full on race truck, or nothing at all. Halo vehicles are basically all show and no go if you really want to hammer off-road. Better off buying the cheapest lowest trim possible, keep it stock, and invest into a SXS for playing in the dirt.

I mean, it should be better.

Pro and TH each have bespoke suspensions.

Mines pretty simple. I drive an 01 so I can live without the TRD off-road packages. I have a feeling I’m gonna have a hard time finding this specific truck because every one that comes off the line is gonna have the TRD off-road packages

Toyota is smart how they packaged these.

I look at an SR5 with heated seats, but obviously want a power rear slider and heated steering wheel with that.
That is basically as much as a base TRD OR, so I might as well get that. But now I have to add my power rear slider and heated steering wheel again.
That is just a few grand shy of the premium package now, so obviously it makes sense to get that since you get so much more over the upgrade package.

Boom. 40k truck just became 52k.

Ehh, I wouldn't say an xtra cab is enough for most buyers. I'd say most of the Tacoma market is similar to me. A suburbanite who can only afford/justify/have one vehicle and doesn't strictly need the utility of the truck bed. The crew cab pick up is now the equivalent of a station wagon at its peak popularity.

Now do I need all the bells and whistles of an optioned out TRD Offroad? Fuck no, but I sure do enjoy the niceties.

Think a Subaru Forester would work for the majority of suburbanites, but Tacomas look cooler. :)

I could certainly make a Forester work. Shit, I made a compact car work for years, but I do use the hell out of my truck bed. So much more useful and convenient for my purposes.

You seriously think they sell more extra cabs then double cabs?
