Though I do find it hilarious people thinking a 1/2 ton is harder to park than a Tacoma, since the sizes aren’t that much different. Very entertaining. :)

I’m curious what made the two of you want to switch to a Tacoma from a 4Runner? If you don’t need any open truck bed then the 4Runner is a much better choice. I’m also curious what those that call it outdated want changed? Do you change the bullet proof drive train? Change the reliable Tcase lever to an electronic knob? The only thing it could use is a bigger infotainment screen. Other than that it’s near perfect. If you want more fancy things buy a Lexus.

I don’t know about it towing over 5K without issue. Very good friend has the 4.7 V8 4Runner, bunch more torque than the 4.0 V6. We traveled from AZ to WA in it. It struggling woefully with a 3500 lbs camper. It was down right scary out in the open with cross winds. Wheel base is too short.

LOL! Think my humor goes over like a lead ballon on here most of the time.

I have a 2016 TRD Off Road and a 2022 F150 Tremor in the 402A package. The F150 gets better mpgs and is a blast to drive. I still like the Tacoma but the mpgs and lack of power have always been a turn-off to me. Yeah there is a lot more to go wrong on a twin turbo V6 but it is so much more fun to drive. So far, the F150 has been trouble free. I drove my last F150 with the 5.4L triton for 17 years and only had to have the trans rebuilt due to a broken accumulator spring. The person I sold it to in 2015 is still driving it and said it's been completely trouble free. Hoping I have the same luck with this one.

Cool. Not sure why you addressed that to me, though.

Because you mentioned fuel bill. The mpgs of the Tremor is about the same as the Raptor. I average 18 in the city driving with a lead foot and get mid-20s on the highway in eco mode. I've never gotten over 17 in the Tacoma TRDOR.

The raptor is rated at 15/18/16. The new tacoma OR is rated at 18/23/21.

    It’s a ‘22…not old enough to feel nostalgia. :D

You need a Sprinter, trust me…

I have seen some dealerships with 2024 listings already. Of course with the obligatory $5,000 “market adjustment.”

Only thing that would bum me out if I was buying a new truck would be the ADM. Yours is fairly small though. Otherwise, bring on the 21st century.

Feels. I am watching used car values plummet so having a signed purchase agreement with my trade value is nice.

@Turd Ferguson I admittedly have a car problem. Not nearly as bad as TacoBuffet lol, but a problem nonetheless. I'm an old fart in my 60's that is far from rich but can afford to drive what I want within reason. Having driven shit vehicles out of necessity earlier in life, driving a newer vehicle is my only real extravagance if you could call it that.

I drive a '21 Tacoma I bought in Dec. of 2020, and I bought the wife the'21 4Runner in April of 2021. At that time, I told her we should be set for the next 10 years, and she laughed, knowing I would want something else in 3 years.

I use the truck bed once a month or so for light hauling, mostly gas cans, propane bottles, etc., stuff I prefer not to haul inside the passenger compartment of a vehicle. If I traded the Tacoma for a 4Runnner I would use my hitch rack for that.

We also have an enclosed 6x10 aluminum trailer we use to haul e-bikes, scooters etc. Yes, my vehicle problem extends beyond just cars and trucks lol. Typical loaded weight on the trailer is under 2000 lbs. loaded and I doubt it ever sees the 3500 lb. GVWR limit. My towing needs would easily be covered by the 4Runner.

I love my Tacoma, but when I drive the wife's 4Runner it is noticeably more comfortable on my aging body. The comfort of the 4Runner would be something I benefited from almost every day. The convenience of the truck is something I benefit from less frequently. So, it's a matter of weighing between the two.

There is no other truck out there right now that I would rather have than my Tacoma or it would already be in my garage lol. When I look at everything on the market right now the only vehicle that I would consider trading for is a 4Runner. I'm talking the current design with 2024 being the last year before the new ones come out. Sure, there are more comfortable SUVs out there if comfort were the only factor. But the unibody SUVs do nothing for me. I've even looked at the Lexus GX460, but it just wasn't me. The trusty old outdated 4Runner just speaks to me. Probably because I'm also old and outdated.

With the crazy pricing of new vehicles, I'm just glad I don't actually need to buy anything. The new offerings definitely gave me a case of sticker shock. At the same time, it makes spending $50k or so on a 2024 4Runner Limited look like more of a value proposition.

TLDR: Old fart with car problem buys new vehicle every 3 years claiming it will be the last vehicle he wants for a long time while wife laughs and says "That's nice honey".
