235/85/16 The Skinny

Based on that I'd be at 42 psi and would be completely on the center tread.

 

42 psi cold, ~46 after driving. Getting pretty even wear.

 

Best way to confirm is the chalk test.

Speaking of which, I have yet to find time to do a chalk test since getting 235/85-16 at3w's... weathers been crap when I've had tike, and perfect when I'm busy.

I’ve read through this thread but may have missed the answer to my question: will a 235/85r16 fit as a spare tire? or does it require mods/relocation?

 

Fits fine for me.

Thanks for the input. Falken Wildpeak AT3W's 235/85-16 mounted thanks to Discount Tire. Much quieter than expected (was in a buddy's truck with KO2's yesterday which were MUCH louder). Stiff ride, as expected for LT tires. Nothing else to add at this point. Hope there's no sale or rebates in the next 30 days or my wallet will be even more pissed off.

 

An LT tire in that size with an "E" load rating will have a thicker and stiffer tread than the Euro-metric or P-metric tires our trucks were shipped with.
If you use the Toyo charts and do the calculations by hand, you get the same answer, so I think the results are pretty reliable.

That size fits well, and gives an extra ~30 mm of clearance between the spare and various oddly shaped debris on a trail.
Combine that with the additional 15-20 mm of height from the increased diameter over stock, and the benefit compounds.

I sometimes wish I went 255/85/16 but they just keep going.

 

Joined the 235 life they look slightly small but not bad the good news is the truck is way happier they are firestone XT's, only 1lb less than my previous 265/75/16 cooper at3 4s. The less rolling resistance is felt with the 2.7 for sure glad i went this route, i originally put them on my stock sr wheels but with -25mm offset it stuck in the fender too much for my taste. If i had no flares i think it would have been just fine, i thought about 1.25 spacers but instead of adding more unsprung weight. I threw on my other wheels FSW 2021 trd pro replicas they are 16x8 0 offset and super light 17.4lbs the stock sr wheels are 23.5. I thought they might look a little stretched on the 8'' wheel but i think its just right they sit just about even with the flares.

it’s not the cool kid look but it’s the most practical. Truck is happier with the thinner tire, with the limited miles I have on the new rubber mpg is definitely going up. I have stage 2 icon leaf pack and 1.1 lift up front. Just changed my front lift from .65 to 1.1 to match the rear a little better

 

235/80r17 Yokohama MTs were great tires! The 4Runner Trail/OR wheels help them poke out a bit more (15mm) compared to stock Taco wheels

The listed weight for an E rated is a super light 24.2 lbs. I have a hard time believing that. Can anyone confirm or explain?

 

It looks like that's very wrong, buy almost half lol.
