Sorry for the late reply. They’re attached to the stock D ring at the bedside.

Thanks for the info. I like the DIY version. I found the tuning section here. Definitely a deep dive. I like this stuff though. Let the research begin.

I hand fabricated it. The CF is available through McMaster Carr. You will need a No Ground Plain Antenna. The rest is up to you.

It is garbage science and marketing with a little competitive cultural stuff. The East Indian casts particularly compete with showing off their "wealth". My girl works in a school district that is 91% East Indian. Her school, in particular, is 99%. You have never seen so many Teslas. Its crazy. Anyone with half a brain knows its pure garbage. I hate the electric cars.

So nice. I literally have a Stage 4 kit in a holding pattern. Cannot wait to pull the trigger. Gotta wait until January.

have the stage 10 kit on this truck. no regrets from switching from king. straight mobs offtrail yet rides much more composed on the street. especially when running no sway bar.

CURT Mfg front receiver, anti-theft cages around cats
After 31 years with my 1991 Truck, I ponied up for a 2023 Tacoma 4WD before the huge and undesirable line changes coming in 2024.
I had to call three local dealers, then Reno, Boise, Salt Lake, Los Angeles and finally Fresno to find what I wanted.

Our area is plagued by catalytic converter thieves, so I had Marco Muffler here in Orangevale weld on the anti-theft cat cages.
We have been hit 3x so far, and I have every confidence they will be back when they see the new truck in the driveway.

I have four cats on this V6 model, which are now secured against sawz-all theft artists.
I understand the replacement costs run about $6,000 for all four.

I also bought a #10504 locking gas cap because Toyota does not make them, nor installs a cab release fuel door.
I kept the OEM cap for "just in case" when the rig is old enough to require smog tests.

That sucks about the thieves in your area. Hopefully some of the new guidelines/laws for buyers of the catalytic converters will help put a dent in the elimination of these thefts.

Congratulations on the purchase of the new Taco! Good call on not getting the 4th gen.

    Welcome to TW!!

should have looked into it a little more. there are clean looking bolt on options to prevent stolen cats available for these trucks.

    Big fluid exchange day.

I would be curious what the dealership would have charged me here in the east coast.

Finally got around to wiring and aiming the DD SS5 Pro lights in selective yellow. The lens are configured in the 30x20 driving pattern and are aimed straight ahead. Had a chance to try them out last night as we had heavy snow. Unfortunately, I think there is such a thing as too much power. The precipitation reflected the massive amounts of light thus negating any potential benefit. Without precipitation, the lights are great. They can illuminate more than 1/2 mile down the road even being behind the grille. That being said, the OEM LEDs are also great at illuminating large lengths of road.

If I were to change the lighting setup, I would probably install the stealth light bar kit in amber driving and ditch the SS5s altogether. As mentioned above, the OEM LEDs are plenty bright for day-to-day (night-to-night?) driving. This isn't the Baja 1000 and the local terrain makes driving fast at night rather dangerous. What I was looking for is more light in adverse conditions. The DD fogs do an excellent job of illuminating the shoulders in snow at night thus the logic follows that a forward-aimed light source that is low to the ground would illuminate the road ahead without reflecting light into the drivers eyes.

This might be a future experiment. I want to spend some more time with the SS5s in varying conditions with different aiming. The driving pattern illuminates the tops of light poles which would be great if the deer suddenly started taking up residence in trees. Unfortunately, aiming the SS5s down to reduce uplight results in the foreground being illuminated which does me no good. So, as a few have seemed to do, I might swap to a spot pattern to reduce the upward-illumination and increase forward-illumination... not that I need it.

An expensive, but good, lesson to learn. Sometimes, the most expensive, most powerful option isn't always the right tool for the job.
