I think we will end up buying another one of the last of the 4Runners next year. I doubt a vehicle that reliable and useful will ever by made again.

I know the new taco engine is a beefed up version of one already in use I think the NX. Is the current Tundra engine in anything? Think it is and the oil pump is the issue as it’s different. Wondering if new Taco will have similar growing pains.

It is bound to have something. The big ones on the Tundra when it was release was the wastegate and loose axel bolts. I think maybe an electronic parking brake issue too....Can't remember what all I got a recall notice for while I had it.

I remember all those and the seat cracking and the window seal trim issue and leaking pano roof. I was more concerned with the blown engines I keep seeing pop up.

Did not have the seat issue or seal...in fact I had zero issues. Did not have the panoroof. Kind of wish I did not sell it after all.

We are currently road tripping in the wife’s RX and thinking maybe we do need a bigger vehicle and thinking tundra again. Just don’t like them without a lift.

outdated is good though, that's the whole point of a truck, things that are old and work. I switched to taco because my 03 4runner was rusted bad ( I bought it off auction and got scammed ) . Also family members all have sedans, so we needed pick up truck. Now my dad has pick up truck too so I am thinking trading mine for 4runner, but idk... I have grown to car, i think ill keep it.

The dealer I am on a wait list at got in one Tacoma close to anything I would have been interested in, SR5 4WD double cab 5' bed. With the $3740 SR5 Upgrade package and mud guards and bed rails /cleats it added up to $45,765.00. Goodnight Vienna. This dealer is not, yet, selling Tundra at under MSRP so I am done with them. There's other fish in the sea. Going with my neighbor Colorado shopping after Xmas, for him not me, curious to see what those are like in the flesh. Crew Cab 4WD WT short box with towing package is around $36,500 MSRP, can get it for thousands less. 310 hp / 391 torque. 7700lb. tow rating. Now that's a truck.

What they need to do is put a turbo 4 cylinder in it, charge $10K more for it and wait for it…get the same exact gas mileage.

Check out that grille. Slap a few TRD Pro stickers on there and the fan bois will eat that up.

I like pretty much everything about my 4Runner except mpg. Hopefully the next gen will be better. But like the Tacoma, it will likely have a higher price. Surely it will be below the GX.

My wife and I each drive around 7k miles per year so the gas mileage isn't much of a factor for us. But I can certainly see where it for those who drive more.

Nothing much really, thought the T-Case lever disappeared awhile ago? Was never too crazy about the current styling. Maybe change that, and make the interior more utilitarian, rubber floors with drain plugs like the Bronco, removable top, diesel (of course)

My point of it being outdated was, majority of the people who buy them, (for the price) would be better off in the most up to date unibody SUV, as most of the 4Runner owners I know (we have a bunch of clients who own them) those vehicles never go off-road. Why suffer in ride quality and at the pump if you’re just going to tool around town in it? My stepfather has the latest Hybrid Highlander, would definitely pick that over a 4Runner if I never went off-road. Even then it rides pretty darn well on wash board roads. He does real estate in AZ and it sees a lot of ranch roads. Bunch of those old ranches are now being developed.

    Lol! Done!

True. Its abilities in snow definitely outweigh mpg.

When I raced mountain bikes, we used to rent minivans. Holds people and gear no problem, fairly decent on fuel and totally under the radar. As they say drive it like a rental! Generally doesn’t get a second glance when you’re doing jackassery.

Think my ultimate vehicle would be a Tacoma chassis with a van body. Closest thing to that is a Toyota Dyna.

Looked very hard at Ford Transits, but didn’t care for their AWD system, stayed with the Tacoma because I feel it is built better (and well…it is)
