Well, it takes time for the wife to admit I'm right and we need a 3rd car. :argue: I figure it'll take about 6 months of loaning her Camry to the boy before she buckles.

And with all the Christmas deals going on right now its the perfect time to make a big financial decision with out your spouses approval.

These commercials crack me up seeing someone surprise their significant other with a 100k car. What fantasy world do these manufacturers live in.

    “Fantasy” is the key word.
Yea there’s no way I’d be able to just randomly surprise the wife with a new Expedition that starts at 70k just for a XL version.

Small Mile Stone, Truck has been running great. Little new noises, but I believe its easy front end shit. Probably needs more grease after the small beatings and rock hopping!

I've always gotten a kick out of this. "Omg honey, you shouldn't have. Crippling debt and financial obligation? How did you know?!"

I think the important part the commercials leave out is the ensuing domestic violence.

"The monthly payments are how much !!!???"

My friend has a wife who managed large asset funds for a bank. He earned big $$ as a "road whore" consultant for Oracle. She managed their funds into a fully paid 4000-sq-ft house in Indiana, a fully paid house in Florida.

If he tried a surprise purchase like that he would disappear without a trace ... and he knew it.

Yeah, a lot of women value much different factors when selecting a car than men.

For my MIL the primary factor is cup holders above all else, it drives my FIL insane.

I will not be sexist. I prefer cash or gift cards for any gifts because I have specific choices for computers, trucks, truck accessories, food, etc. A few items I can give specifications ahead of time, but most things I need to choose.

    Fair enough.

I am not trying to be sexist and say that men or women are dumber at picking cars.

They just tend to have different priorities.
A guy might lose his mind over raw horsepower, while his better half cares more about handling
Or he might car more about it being 4x4, but she cares more about the interior setup.

However it pans out, surprising your better half with a large dollar vehicle purchase seems silly

If you know it is what he/she wants ... fine. Bright/shiny/sparkly tends to go over well regardless. Spa weekend with her "besties" when she raves about them is safe. A chop-saw he (or she) talks about often is safe.

But, true, as the price goes up best to be sure he/she does not feel obligated to "just love it" or required to gently reject push back to spend the money better.
