My '91 sits in the driveway next to the new 2023.
When it sells, that will bring an end to my 60 year love affair with stick shift vehicles.
I've never in my life owned an automatic until this new 2023, and only because the 6 speed manual is literally impossible to find at this late date in the production year.
Same as the wife's RAV4, it can be manually downshifted and locked when descending steep grades without riding the brakes.

It has 244k miles and the paint and rust is very rough from 31 years in the Sacramento sun.
The power steering rack leaks a bit, so it runs Lucas anti-leak power steering fluid.

The 22RE had a top end job and aftermarket performance timing chain 100k miles ago.
2nd clutch, 3rd radiator and water pump.
Throwout bearing squeaks when engaged, and SR5 trannie needs bearings and synchros.
It starts every single time, gets 27 mpg on the freeway, and is never broken into because it is ugly as sin.
    The AM/FM died ages ago.
After a new EGR valve and gas cap, it passes smog with flying colors.

Demand for 2023 Tacomas is nothing less than fierce.
I called around everywhere, and had to settle for 95% of what I wanted
Access Cab, 4WD, 3.5l engine, 6-foot bed, and Ice Cap white.
What I really wanted was a new Hilux, but they don't import them into the US anymore.

I have DD SSc3 4k pro with clear driving lens mounted in that same spot and wired as auxiliary high beams. I also cut small windows out of my grill for them. Very happy with them.

I've had your post bookmarked for a long, long time. I've spent many hours looking at that photo, trying to decide if I want to cut the grille or not. How do they perform in rain, snow, dust, fog, etc.?

I did the same last year. I recommend Koch Chemie GSF shampoo and P&S beadmaker sealant.

If you are driving home with a bottle of single malt ... just wait for help while drinking the single malt.

I made it to a gas station with 5 miles per plan. But they had yellow tape around the pumps and some clowns were working on them. Dammit! Nearest gas station was 4.4 miles down the road. I coasted in neutral down a couple hills lol. Been down to 3 miles before but this one was close lol

DD SSc3 Pro have no issues in inclement weather with ice or snow.

I also have the same with regular fog lens as fog lights.

Driving over a mountain pass in the middle of the night with rain and patchy fog while being able to switch between high beam with SSc3 and and going to low beam with SSc3 fogs is where it all pays off.

Body was trimmed for the aftermarket bumper, cutting windows out of the grill was nothing.

Nice write up, too bad you couldn't find a MT. Get an OTT tune, I think you'll like it.

Do you remember symptoms of the bad EGR valve?

Noticed my $40 Autozone special seat covers are splitting at the seam, where I slide onto the seat climbing in. Who-da-thunk $40 seat covers might be not-durable?

I was trying to avoid Clazzios or RoughCountry or others. May be time to rethink at least RoughCountry for $200 ...

Drop the dough on some with extra padding and you can’t feel the bar running across the back bottom of the seat across your back. Cover craft makes good ones too for 3 bills though. Might be some Xmas specials out there.
