When I think improved driveability, I'm thinking it has to do with the way the transmission behaves...I could care less about 0 to 60/ quarter mile times. But if the transmission shift points are improved that's a win in my book.

Comfort as well and handling. Sorry but the 3rd gen is not a comfortable ride . My legs cramp up on long drives and the leather seats are trash

Seems to shift fine to me, but I drove manuals most of my life. There is always a little odd shift here and there, but every slush box I have driven is like that. Not the gear I would have chosen, but oh well.

Was hammering on it the last few days, that thing will get down the road in a hurry, I mean in a hurry! so I guess, don’t see what all the fuss is about *shrug*

Also from the mindset, don’t understand the need for maximum power for street use. Just assume the people that buy halo vehicles are super insecure. If you aren’t on the race track then what is the point other than to show boat your insecurities??? Yeah?

It is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever owned, even my wife comments on how well it rides and drives.

I'm sure it does, I just know alot of people complained about it, and how it downshifts with the slightest grade etc. I'm sure taking it out of overdrive helped with that and/or ect mode.

Surprised I haven’t seen anyone else comment on the lane centering + adaptive cruise combo when discussing 3rd gen vs 4th gen drivability. I currently have a 2014 Crosstrek which has neither of those. I had some work done at stealership recently, and they lent me a new Outback that has it. Absolute game changer for long highway drives to me, I really cannot overstate how much of a difference it made on the drive back to the house (I live in the boonies). The fact that the 4th gen Tacoma has lane centering and the 3rd gen doesn’t is literally worth the price up-charge alone in my opinion. Probably not a popular opinion on this forum

Being 6'1 with long legs it is not designed for me
And if u could go back I would have bought a 4 runner

My 99 is the most comfortable truck I’ve ever owned. That doesn’t mean the 2024 won’t be better

Mine doesn’t do that. It will with the cruise control on, because it is looking for the sweet spot rpm for the best mpgs. It is more of a CC software program thing than the actual trans or engine.

Run Yokohama G015 for the summer, and have Blizzaks on there now. My wife is pushing for me to get a new truck because she loves how the 3G rides and wants the hand me down. And honestly…really don’t want a new truck, perfectly content with what I have now. Maybe she needs her own 3G?

That’s fine, I respect your opinion. But I would ask that you give it a legitimate shot and not dismiss it out of hand.

Important to note many people’s opinions of semi-autonomous functionality has been tainted by what the industry has generally settled on calling ‘lane-keep’ or ‘lane-departure’. This is the annoying bong and subsequent ‘ping pong’ that you’ll see people talk complain about- lane keeping is trash on it’s own. If you’ve tried it and the vehicle was ping ponging between the lane lines, you were not in a vehicle with true lane centering. True lane centering, or lane-tracing as some manufacturers call it, is basically just fancy cruise control.

Is it also the only truck you’ve ever owned?

This is how 99% of test drives will go down. The tester will drive their own truck to the dealer like a sane person never going over 2500 rpm. They will get in the new truck pull out of the lot and hammer the throttle to redline and say oh my god it’s so much faster.
I hope TFL does a drag race of all the Tacoma generations to see if there really is much noticeable difference.

G2 4.0 tuned versus G4 gas on the 1/4 mile is what I want to see.

C+D already did and the 4th Gen is faster. The torque down low will make normal driving far more pleasant as well.

The feel difference between my wife’s turbo 4 SUV and her previous higher-revving v6 suv with similar power is incredible. Much more enjoyable to have piles of low end torque
