What up gang. Long time lurker, occasional poster. I've noticed the price of GX470's is finally starting to come back down to reality. I'm seeing ones pop up on Facebook for $5k or even less. Most need TLC but I'm ok with that as long as I can tell critical maintenance was done. My hope is to find one in the next 12 months.

My question is, are there any years I should avoid? I know 05+ has VVTI and more power. I'd like to find one without a cracked dash. The buyers guide on ih8mud hasn't been updated since 2015.

All had the 5 speed auto but they got rid of the transmission dipstick in....04? I prefer the dipstick but that's not a deal breaker.

i think the only ones with dipstick is the 03s and i think it was the 4 speed. personally i would go with 05+

Only 03 has the trans dip stick but honestly checking the trans fluid level is super easy.

personally I’d go with whatever the newest one with the most maintenance records you can find.

03/04 don’t have vvti but it’s not really a deal breaker. They are prone to the brake accumulator pump going bad and you have to either buy a whole new assembly ($2k) or get a rebuilt one ($900).

05-09 have vvti which means more hp/tq but there is also now SAIS which is prone to going bad and very expensive to fix. There are a couple kits on the market to “fix” it however.

doubt you can find one with a cracked dash. It just is what it is. I bought a new one for $650 and plan to replace it myself at some point.

Agreed. My 02 Tundra doesn't have it.
You mean the bypass kits? That's what most guys do with the 05-06 Tundra if they fail. TN is not an emissions state so no concerns there.

Why is that? Did people not take advantage of the dash recall or do they break again after they are replaced?

    Appreciate the responses.

I believe the dash replacement deal was 10yrs from manufacture date.

re: SAIS - Hewitt makes two kits. The cheaper on won’t show it as ready on the monitor.
I did the emulator kit and deleted the entire system. The only component that was reused was a pressure sensor from under the intake manifold. Everything else went in the trash.

They aren't out yet. The release has been delayed somewhat and now we're looking at getting them March/April hopefully. All dealers were supposed to get 1 or 2 on the last allocation but I'm not sure how this delay affected that. I probably won't be able to preference any until January ish.

It adds extra features. The Overtrail+ is like the Luxury version of the Overtrail.

Yup  mainly it has massaging front seats, kick sensor for rear hatch, sun shades, etc... stuff the regular Overtrail doesn't have.
