Hey Guys, I’m new here but not new to Toyotas as I’ve owned 1st, 2nd, and now 3rd gen Tacoma's over the years.

I recently bought a 3rd gen Tacoma TRD Sport and within 140 km (under 100miles) the truck went into limp mode. The dealer took it back after arguing with toyota road side assistance for a morning at no cost to me.

It has been 3 weeks that it has been at the dealership 4 codes tied to mis-fires not sure which cylinder. They changed injectors and the cylinder that had the code is not mis-firing anymore but the mis-fire has moved on to another cylinder.

Anyone have any input into this? I’m damn sick of this truck already and I would walk away if the dealer just gave my money back. Has anyone on here had luck with being bought out of a new truck before?
    Thanks ahead of time.

Check the lemon laws in your state. In general when a dealer can't get your vehicle fixed within a reasonable amount of time, the lemon laws will let you walk away with a full refund.

That’s not good. Could be anything. Hopefully the dealership makes it right as you are under warranty and at a huge inconvenience.

Try and have every conversation if possible by email, be specific about dates & times in your emails. I'm no mechanic, and can't help you diagnose, but I've had my share of frustrations with big companies. I hope they find a fix for this, but I'd also be looking at lemon laws.

Sucks i know, but stay polite and professional throughout. You have both warranty and lemon law backing you up.

I’ve had texts between myself and the service manager that I have saved and documented.

unfortunately there are no Lemon laws in Canada which I find to be a terrible thing to not have.

Document everything like said above. My states lemon is they have 3 chances at fixing it in the 1st year. Also open up a case with Toyota corp.

If I didn’t have a commuter car for the mean time I’d be screwed. The truck didn't even make one trip to work. Not the type of toyota that I’ve come to know in the past.

I think you set a new record here, 100 miles.
After you get it sorted tell the dealer you want an extended warranty, no cost to you.

Unfortunately in Canada there is no lemon law but I could be supplied an arbitrator to negotiate reconciliation if I choose to move that way. Unfortunately that doesn’t guarantee I walk away scott free after spending hard earned money on what I expected to be a reliable vehicle.

Thats one of the many things I’ll be demanding. Not the kind of record I want to be setting, I owned a lemon before and don’t need another one.

Maybe Canada is different but you should have a free loaner from the dealer.

Ask the dealer to have a field tech/engineer come look at your truck. They will get it sorted out

They would have no questions asked. But were rolling into winter and I have winter tires on my commuter so I’d rather drive that anyhow.

They have an engineer on it I believe. Unless you mean request the engineer to go there in person.

sounds like you have more of a dealer issue. Once they find the issue it should be good to go.

Wow, what a worst case scenario. Ugh. Plant the seed that it's still a new truck they can sell as new to the next unsuspecting guy after they fix it and you just point at the next truck on the lot and say you want that. They won't go for it, so just follow the more reasonable advice from everyone else and document everything and get free warranties and oil changes for ever and everything that is nailed down in the accessory dept.

Yep.. I’m shooting for a buy back at this point fingers crossed that flys and I’ll stick to fixing up old Toyota's that are actually dependable. Only reason I decided to buy a new one is because I smoked a deer with my old one. Just utterly disappointed at this point.
