Twice in a week, I was in our Library. Not to be smart and get a book, just to eat.
Eugene Clark Library is the oldest continually operating Library in Texas. Meals were in the lyceum, which used to be one of the main rooms, but now most of the actual library is in the (very old) three story next door, which now interconnects with the original building. It's a cool old place.

I am debating installing a remote oil filter.

    https://www.baxterperformanceusa.co...k-cartridge-to-remote-adapter-multi-port.html

Pro: no dropping that 47-pound steel skid plate. The aluminum was 22 pounds, but I destroyed it on a pancake rock that flipped up. It did its job, but ouch!
Filter up top (like those Gen 2 Tacomas) means I won't hesitate to change the oil and filter before it hits 5,000 miles.

Con: Cost and it increases "possible points of failure" (two hoses, four fittings).

I'm off-road often with the truck, so there are no Fujimoto quick-release valves. I like them, but not for off-road. I am a stickler for using a torque wrench and new crush washers (the dental pick occasionally needs to snag the old one off the pan).

Years back, a friend added an oil filter to his Stinson 108-3. Initially, there was no filter on those Franklin Engines. So, the filter seemed like a good idea until we burst a hose at 8,000 ft. Pucker factor time. He called for Mayday, two souls on board (gulp), but perfect dead engine landing. Fire and rescue were there to guide us back in; a local reporter was disappointed to see a perfect landing. "Were you scared?" The "No Comment" nonevent made the local news, but not with us in it! He installed new hoses, but a few flights later, something happened. Aeroquip had a manufacturing defect, passed testing, but blew with hot oil pressure. Oops. I think he sold the plane without the remote filter.

Once I ran out of headlights to work on, and the rain hadn't started, time to make some fender flare repair clips. Didn't work to well to start, as all the flat pieces you see were rejects before the first "good" one, that would actually grip a mounting clip. But the ones that were gone, that I made total replacements for, will probably be put on with a mastic, so that they will move a little when put in place. All the original clips have holes "bigger" than the clip, but they were all on just fine, even missing some. So........should work! Putting them on will come next week.

I faced the same situation. Fortunately I’ve retired and don’t have to go to work every day. So my solution was to schedule my laser cataract surgery with the second eye done only 2 weeks after the first. Dr. said some people just take the lens out of the glasses for the eye you’ve had the surgery on and that’s just what I did lol. Happy with the results, I got the long distance lens and use reading glasses for up close tasks. No regrets I see everything driving very well now.

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

We started the renovation work on the living room of our old farmhouse. After starting into it with our contractor we decided to strip the walls back to the original framing and replace all the wiring/boxes/switches and drywall it instead of trying to repair all the old plaster over lathe. The original structure dates back to sometime in the later 1800s and we confirmed our thought that it started out as a 2 room house - 1 room downstairs and one upstairs. You can see the interior wall that has plaster over lathe on the opposite side which is where they eventually added a room that is now a bedroom as well as where windows were closed in over time. It was cool to find remnants of the wallpaper scraps that they used to "insulate" the outer walls when the house was built. No treasure maps or bags of cash in the walls, though. :(

Morning folks :hattip:Don’t understand why I get up at the regular work time. Haven’t worked in almost a year, I guess a 45 year old habit is hard to break. Be safe and have a good one.

My upgrade was out of necessity. My old tablet was not able to log on to Wi-Fi in hotels and a lot of public restaurants. So far the conversion is going very well. I have a problem with only 2 apps so far. For less than $250 I think I am doing pretty well.

Good morning. Not a good day yesterday. My SIL passed on. Today we are headed to Michigan at 8am.

Nice. I love old buildings and seeing how they built them so they last hundreds of years. Got to work on my dads old building in Portsmouth a while back, the beams on the 3rd floor were exposed and each once was hand chiseled and each part of the trusses were stamped with a Roman numeral to match the cross beams. Evidently, they built everything on the ground, marked it, disassembled, carried it up then reassembled up there. Really cool.

I still get up within a 30 minute window of what I did for decades, even 5 years after retiring….

Been retired for 23 years. Still get up long before the sun. Actually I enjoy it even more. Summers we sit on our East facing screened porch having coffee and watch the world coming to life. Evenings we are back there with a glass of red wine as the sun sets.
Enjoy your retirement and don’t waste a day because you can never get it back!

We've made a point of changing habits set by societal norms while working. Changes include two meals a day instead of three, 10ish AM and 5ish, and earlier to bed and earlier to rise. Bed when we are tired instead of any specific time. Sometimes up in the middle of the night and then back to bed. Screw the work habit... there are no rules. We even have dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner. Nachos in the morning!
