The post I was replying to was comparing the i-Force Max Tundra to the normal i-Force Tundra to show the difference, I was saying we could probably expect a bigger difference on the Tacoma with the bigger boost it gives in power.

Your 2nd gen doesn’t have variable valve timing as far as I know, the 3rd gen does. This means the bulk of that HP difference is way up in the RPMs but it has less low end. (Edit: it was the dual VVTi I was thinking of, which may have the same result as what I was trying to get at. Not sure though)

Yup. That 4.0 has vvt-i. The torque at rpm is the difference. They tuned the 3.5 and smart auto to try save fuel.

Come on Goat, you know what people are talking about. Acceleration through the RPM range, confident shifting, better road dynamics, cornering, small bump compliance, seat comfort. You know all the things a 3rd gen doesn’t have ;)

    Lol!

Ooooh I know, just find it funny, since most of the time it will be sitting in traffic. Wow just feel all this drivability! Move 10’ stop…move another 10-20’ stop, ohhh did you feel that!? That right there is “drivability” son…

Think there was a Lexus or Infinity or the like commercial a few years back showing just that….the driver day dreaming of what the luxo car is capable of, then snaps back into reality sitting in the daily grind. “This car is capable of great things! but most likely never do them…” (aren’t you glad you spent all that money!? Fighting traffic to get to that miserable job to afford it!?) :)

Here's a torque graph from Toyota showing 1Gr vs. 2GR tacomas.

I don’t know man, my 2G turned into a mountain road beast after getting OME suspension all around. Makes driving to my cabin way more enjoyable. Tires can change a lot. Little things do matter.

Oh I know, just teasing as most of these trucks will be mainly be used slog along in traffic. Can’t tell you how many totally built out overland bro dozers we have here doing the daily grind. Find it funny…all that effort tossed at those rigs, and here we all are crawling along in bumper to bumper traffic.

Have OME on my 1G, it’s “ok”. Liked it better when I had the Camburg coil overs and Deavers, got tired of rebuilding the coil overs, they don’t fair well where they use de-icer on the roads. Were great in AZ though.

Honestly the 1G is awful as a daily, my 3G with the cheap SR Hitachis rides night and day better. Was going to do top trim Dobinsons, and then thought why? Stock is fine, rides great the way it is. For off-road much rather be on a bike, faster, smoother, can get into some insanely gnarly stuff that these trucks can only dream of. Tossing money at a truck is mostly useless to me. It’s a to the trail head hauler and nothing more.

Exactly! Lol! Probably be better returning it back to completely stock.

Dunno, have been in trophy trucks before, everything else pales in comparison. So basic and stock for street use is fine for me.

I do get “the look” often for driving the speed limit. :D

Little do they realize I get a kick watching them loosing their bowel control in my rear view. About the only joy I get during the gawd awful commute… :) usually give a big shit eating grin and my best parade wave back as they flip me off driving past. :D

I was considering trading my Tacoma for a 4Runner Limited. But now I'm warming up to the GX460. Might go drive one today back-to-back with the wife's 4Runner and see what happens.

Old school like the 4Runner but with more comfort and the last of the V8s. I can get one with the Premium Plus package etc. for around $60k.

Same platform as the 4Runner. I think they are a little uglier outside, but if I had that kind of money to drop I would pick the GX460 for that interior and V8.

This guy just went through the same ordeal with getting a GX over a 4Runner

For just a little more you could have a diesel Escalade and have all the torques and great mileage to boot, won’t save you any money though…
