Yep. I figured if I was going for comfort, I should at least drive the GX. For my situation seat comfort is one of the highest priorities lol.

Agree the 4Runner is a little cooler looking but some of the GX trims and colors are pretty sharp.

I'm far from rich but the money is not an issue. And I don't drive enough for the mileage or the premium fuel to matter.

My biggest hangup with the GX was the third row I don't need and the side opening rear hatch. The third row seat isn't that big of a deal. It raises the load height but I'm not buying this for a cargo hauler. And after looking some more, I see they have that tilt open glass in the rear door that I actually like. When I think about how I would use the rear door it might be even better that the 4Runner. I had to put a pool noodle on the garage door on my wife's side so it doesn't scratch the 4Runner hatch when you open it.

At this point I'm just thinking about it, not ready to write the check. Told the wife that this morning and she laughed. I need TacoBuffet to talk me down from the ledge lol!

Thanks for the video. I'll check it out.

Lexus says it takes premium fuel even though it’s the same 4.6 that used to be in the Tundra that took regular fuel

Those are cool but they just don't appeal to me. No way I would buy a diesel, it doesn't fit my use case. I drive 6-7k miles a year and tow a 1600 lb. trailer short distances (<50 miles) occasionally. Gas mileage is a non-factor for me.

If comfort were my only consideration there are better choices than the GX. I know the unibody offerings are more refined, but I just can't get away from the BOF "truck like" vehicles. I blame it on my Ohio hillbilly genetics lol.

My other issue is I've turned into a Toyota fanboy. I've owned most of the brands and had pretty good luck with them. Except for the Toyotas, they all had relatively minor issues that required trips to the shop for repairs. When I buy something, I always consider long term reliability, telling myself I'm going to keep this one for a long time. Then inevitably I get bored with it and trade it in in 3-4 years lol.

My wife drives even less 3K/year, yet insists on being in a Tacoma or 4Runner. A lot of big trucks here, she doesn’t feel safe in anything smaller.

Yeah I hear ya, I go look at other brands they are very nice, really hard to leave Toyota.

I’m from Southwestern PA, descendant from coal miners and had a construction/excavation biz, we always had trucks, never driven much of anything else. Only recently started riding around in Unibody vehicles, gotta say my stepfathers Hybrid Highlandlander is awfully nice, interior is better than a 4Runner, gobs of power and great mileage to boot. But I also drive 20-25K/year, my annual fuel bills are higher than most, but use the truck part time for business so I can write some of it off.

Toyota has that new Crown SUV coming, that looks even nicer. Honestly wish I could talk the wife into something like this, I could daily it and she take the Tacoma.

    Crazy uh?

Incredibly nice rig, one I am too cheap to pay that kind of money, and two do I really want to drag something that expensive down the back roads of Idaho and other Western states? That is the thing with halo vehicles, do you really want to go beat on it off-road as they advertise it?

I mean why buy a halo vehicle if you can’t jump it 90’??? Lol

The GX looks pretty sharp with a winch bumper and bigger tires. Even my wife agrees. Except for the ridiculous grille.

I bet they are nice to drive.

I hope the new Tacoma's drive and ride better than the new Tundra's. I had a chance to test drive a limited trd offroad 4x4 Tundra with the factory trd lift and an sr5 4x4 Tundra with kdss yesterday. The sr5 rides so much smoother, but the seats were some of the most uncomfortable I've ever sat my back against.

Both Tundra's drove like pontoon boats and were a bit unpredictable with too much roll in the turns. The 3rd gen Tacoma is so much more composed on the road in comparison. I think the new Tundra is a bit of a flop on Toyota's part.

Can't wait to drive the trd pro Tacoma...

I don't remember Toyota ever offering KDSS on the Tundra. Only ones I know that has the KDSS is the GX, 4Runner, and Land Cruiser.

I took a new gen SR5 Tundra with cloth seats on a test drive and was not at all impressed with the ride quality, but I loved the powertrain feel.

The ride was very jittery but the worst part was how flat and firm the seats are. It was like a wooden board to me. Auto journalists have written about its jittery ride, but praised the ride in the new Tacoma so I have high hopes. The seats also look like they’d be more comfy in the Tacoma

Yeah, I've heard you can run either. I guess I need to find out because we just got back from test driving one and the wife likes it even more than I do. Her favorite part about it is the V8 even though it's not noticeably faster than the 4Runner. She's a motorhead at heart lol.

If I can negotiate a deal I'm happy with we are getting one. Made it clear up front to the salesman I was there just for the test drive and to pick out colors/options. Let him know I planned to shop all the dealers in the region and didn't have a problem traveling to get the vehicle and deal that I wanted. He was totally cool with that. I think that is pretty common these days.

I’m waiting until the next gen 4Runner breaks cover, or until I can test drive a GX 550 Premium+.

I'm sure both of those will be awesome, especially the GX 550.

I like the GX and hopefully there will be some big discounts once the new one is out. Looks like you can already get about 5k off. I'm just not sure I'd be happy with "only" 300 hp in a V8 in 2023.

I didn't think it was an option either. That's just what the sales person was spewing out their yapper during the drive.

The seats literally felt like sitting on a piece of plywood.

For $60k+ for a midsize truck, I sure as hell hope it would! Cool commercial, but I like how they Have Andy Bell and Travis Pastrana doing a trail that a base 2wd truck could do. I really don’t think Toyota thought it out when they made these prices (or they did and they really don’t care). Needless to say, watching these videos makes me even more happy and content with my 2022!
