    Hi Everyone,
New to the forum as I just traded my Nissan Titan in for a 2021 Tacoma SR5 with a V6. I noticed a ticking noise on the right side and took it to the dealer since it’s still under warranty. They said it’s the vacuum pump. Said they’d replace it, but the noise will come back. I’ve read what I could find on the subject, but didn’t see where Toyota has fixed the issue with the pump. The truck has 32k miles so I’m close to the end of the warranty. I think I’m going to have them replace it even if it will only be temporary. Anyone know if they have re engineered to pump so it doesn’t fail?
    Thanks, Mike

Fyi your warranty on power train is 5/60. Tick is normal on these trucks. Mostly injectors, and really noisy when in clean mode.

Do you know which TSB or vacuum pump part number it was?

T-SB-0115-22 December 22, 2022. This I believe is the most up to date version.

The part number for the pump would be #29300-31050.

Also no idea what Toyota revised on the pump. They changed part numbers for every TSB they pushed out.

@na8rboy ”clean mode”? Are the injectors self cleaning? I have not read my whole owner’s manual. I got my phone paired and that’s about as far as I got!
@Drippy4x4 I don’t know. They didn’t have the part in stock so I have to take it back in 2 weeks. One son has a ‘19 Tacoma and the other has an ‘07 4Runner. I had an 01 Tundra before the Titan and all of those engines were quiet. They said it was a temporary solution, but I’m hoping temporary is a long time. I’ve only had the truck a month so I’m not sure when it started.

The "cleaning mode" noise is from the direct injectors rapid firing off..usually a "ticking" sound. Normal behavior for this engine.

Your vacuum pump will make a "clattering" sound. Almost diesel-like.

If your dealership did replaced the vacuum pump. Don't expect the noise to go away. According to the TSB, it says the noise is "reduced"

They’re replacing it in 2 weeks so I guess I’ll find out. It can’t hurt to replace it.

I recently got a 2021 TRD Sport and it sounds bad too. I wonder why some sound bad and never sound good even after repair and some sound completely fine?

If you like to live on the wild side, i found 0w/5w-30 oils to quiet everything down significantly. Otherwise it's fairly typical for these trucks. Let them replace it and see what happens. Worst case ontario, you know it's just how it is

I’ve run everything from 0/20 to 0/40, 5/20 to 5/40 and 10/30 to 10/50 in the last 11 months. Still clickity clacks like all hell.

Don't tell Greta Thunberg but, throw a couple tablespoons of two stroke oil in your gas tank and see what happens

I’m sitting at 74k miles since I bought the truck new last Dec 12. Well out of warranty. Plus you use what you can find in South America

FYI the TSB clearly states the vacuum pump is a 3/36 item, not 5/60.

    Is that a special catalytic-converter life-extender product?

Tacos are old school trucks, the diesel sound at the start of the engine is normal. Also the smashing noise when you change to D or R is also normal
