My vote is they comp you a full metal bumper. Always ask if they've done the work I'm asking to be completed on any of my cars. I even asked when I had my RCI sliders installed you never know. Hope it works out in your favor.

    OP,

Gotta agree with everyone above. I installed my bumper myself, fully knowing that any screw up was on me.

Is it perfect? No, but I’m happy with the approach I took, and I think it looks pretty good.

To pay a shop and get this result is unacceptable. Only you can decide what “acceptable” is to you, but they owe you.

They admitted to doing it wrong (instructions) so its 100% on them to make it right, even if they have to buy a new bumper cover and have it painted. Thats business!

Did you at least ask for them to take some money off of the install, or did you just pay the full price and leave?

Don’t accept a full metal bumper- you know what they’ll buy to put on it. Just have them pay to get the right replacement parts (go get some estimates from a real shop and have the other place do it).

    Make em fix it!

Be polite, but make them make it right, not acceptable with comprise, they should make it right.

You did your part, you show up and then paid them, they should do their part.

That is a bummer man. I would need to calm down for a day or 2 and then come up with a solution.

Doesn't matter. As a professional shop its within their ethical obligation to provide the correct service (as in verifying parts and instructions, etc all are correct for the work) in exchange for money.

Doesn't matter. It's still on the shop. If you pay someone else to do it, that someone else assumes liability for the job. Them's the breaks.

What's real shocking is that OP took the keys and drove home after accepting a shit job. I haven't done that since I was 16 and I paid some shadetree asshole 100 bucks to install bubbly window tint. I guess we all gotta learn to address transactional conflict at some point in our lives.

If the shop is honest to do well it shouldn't matter if it was brought up in the parking lot or 2 days after. Its easy to get caught up in the excitement of new toys and not seeing the forest past the mushroom. Also its not always bad to have a cool off before working to have the issue resolved.

It's just plastic. You'll be crunching a lot more plastic when you take the truck on the trails. Since the shop admitted fault, try to get your money back on the install, then fill the hole with a lightbar or something. The black insert piece is only $35 if you don't feel like buying a lightbar. In a year you'll outgrow that low-chin winch cradle and change to something that won't kill your approach angle.

Have you checked if adaptive cruise control still works with the hoop on the winch cradle?

It’ll heal, rub some dirt on it. You know it took me 60 years to get a brand spanking new truck, so far I’ve done all my own mods but next Wednesday I’m getting sliders installed by the manufacturer. Fingers crossed everything goes well or there will be HELL to pay in frog town. Please keep us posted on how things play out.

I didn't provide the instructions. I did however provide the link to the Cali raised bumper and looked it over with the owner to see how feasible he thought it would be and he said no problem, should be easy.

He passed the work off to an employee who didn't get the same info that I gave the owner.

I live in an area where there is no shortage of work for these guys so I don't have much leverage, but he already said he has connects with a body shop guy that can do body work and color matching and I've already supplied him the OEM parts, they're just plastic. They will remount the bumper it's just gonna take time...the snowbirds are in town and backing up appointments.
