Broke the plastic that holds the u-clip clip on nut for the bottom bolt of my taillight.
Immediately thought (edit: JBWeld) steelstik to build up the area around the nut.

Not looking to buy another taillight at this point.

Has anybody done this fix and firmly held the brake light housing again? Any other ideas?

if nothing works I have 2 sets of OEM taillights sitting around. 1 set is the stock 2019 trd sport taillights and the other is the stock 2017-2019 trd pro taillights

I agree. I once used JB Weld to glue a pre-ban compensator on to the barrel of a post-ban AK-47. It never blew off.

Ha. I did the same thing when i put in the super bright led reverse lights. I drove like that for like 8 months. Was fine on streets, but would pop out a little offroad. I finally bought a whole new tail light for $155 shipped from toyotapartsdeal.

    JBWeld for the win.
Slapped on a good chunk and molded it as it hardened.
Some fine Dremel work with a stone and a drill bit and it fit the u-clip.
Let's see how it holds up. A cold beer and some satisfaction on a cool little project.

I was installing bed lights on my 2023 SR and ended up breaking the top nut stud off. Any suggestions for repair? I don't really want to buy another taillight just yet. (I have the stud still)

Like above, JBWeld or Harbor Freight sells a “plastic welding kit”. It’s a soldiering iron with wide tip to heat, melt mend plastic parts.

Anyone have any suggestions on if the tab is broke and the part that the bolt threads through got lost in the mix? In other words the tab broke off and is lost.

Initial idea was snap the tab off the ones I’m replacing and JB Weld it on, but if that doesn’t work then I have two busted tabs lol

I don't know how you could lose the threaded clip as the bolt was still in there.
I broke the tab off one of mine due to rust on the bolt. JB Weld "plastic welder" for the tab, PB Blaster to free up the bolt. Chased threads in the clip. Never Seize on the bolt on re-install. We'll see how that works if I have to take it off again. Pulled the other one and did the same.

Maybe I wasn’t clear, or you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying. The stud snapped off the tab during storage or transport so now all I have left is a broken clip. This is what I’m working with. Any ideas on how to make this work.

The kids at the rustproofing place broke every one of these clips on my taillights slamming the bolts back in with an impact. This was a few years back. Lights literally fell out of my truck and hung on the wires. I had to get them to replace the lights with OEM, as JB weld wouldn’t bond well enough. I could not think of any other reliable way to rebuild the broken plastic. Almost $700CDN. These lights should have more beef to the plastic around these clips.

I agree. Mine are still a bit too tricky to get out even when unbolted. I’m contemplating putting some double sided 3M tape on the upper section, where my tab broke. The bottom tab/clip is fine.

Right now I can’t think of any downsides of this…aside from if I have to remove the tails again for some reason…

OK, so you never had the tab to begin with. Misunderstanding. Thought they broke on disassembly. Looks like a new light in that case, unless you're really creative. Which I would be, given the price of the lights.

Yeah, so far my options are:

    a) break a tab off my old tails and JB Weld that on to the new Pros. Obviously if I mess up then I’m totally SOL

    b) 3M double side tape the top portion of the tails with the broken tab. VHB tape is what I was thinking. My concern there is if I ever need to remove the tail again, I’m not sure what damage I would cause on the trucks housing.

    c) anything you guys that are smarter than me suggest lol
