Congrats. I've learned over many years it pays to use quality and proper tools for any job. If you think that's a scratch maybe you need a mercedes not a truck.

I like this idea on the brow part. What did you go with just satin vinyl?

Yup, the angle is making the struts work harder than the need to for sure. I had Spiker struts on my ‘19 and have them on both my other vehicles, figured I’d try this “no drill” option here. The Sokies are much stiffer (highly charged), presumably to compensate for the angle. As far as closing it does rotate and close as you’d expect

So far they do lift just as well as the Spikers did, will see on longevity, but plenty here have had good life out of them. If they fail it’s not like it’s a commitment to take them out

I'm over 3 years on my set, still working flawlessly. A little slow in the cold thats it.

Yeah, the only thing that keeps me interested is that it looks cool when complete. I feel my nerves building more each day. Maybe after the new year my bro will tell me he has an open lift and then, I’m committed.

Guy from spiker took issue with the angles and hoods bending rather than struts failing. Pertinent opinions begin here and go back and forth a lot if I recall correctly.
That’s what scared me away I believe. Regardless of wether bending the hood is an issue or not, I’d rather have the height of the redlines I think

That’s definitely why I don’t have struts as well, pretty low on the purchase priority list for me. Be prepared for flak from “you should be checking your engine every two weeks” crowd

If you live in the northern states or Canada, you would be lifting your hood weakly topping up your windshield wiper fluid. Having hood struts is a game changer in this situation.

Updated my head unit software. The head unit over the air check said it was up to date. I happened to check toyota.com and found it was several revisions behind, possibly had never been updated. A quick check of the model number and I had the correct update of three options on a thumb drive to install. The install took about 10 minutes.

I live in Canada and have arms that work perfectly fine to open and close a hood. Even on a truck sitting a bit higher than stock.

1st take the drill and throw it far away from the truck! Then get a good #3 screwdriver (not #2), tighten slightly and then loosen. Although the head of the screw may already be damaged to much.

Go to Home | Toyota Software

Put in your VIN in the drop down menu

follow the instructions and download the appropriate update for your radio.
There are instructions on the Toyota page to help you find the head unit modelID.

    Select a Vehicle.jpg

You can download to your computer, then drop it on a thumb drive.

    Get updates.jpg

You will need your Model ID from your radio.

    Select you ModelID.png

After I did the update, I dropped all my ripped CDs onto the thumb drive to play at will through the data port.
