Sounds like they bent over to fix their mistake and found another truck for you. Also sounds like you have a 4k trade in value and a $500 deposit. They would like to earn your business, but they don't owe you anything else.

If that's no longer acceptable take your $500 deposit and find another dealer. Nobody's perfect and life goes on. If you stew over this it will ruin the entire experience and that's all you'll remember for as long as you own the truck. :hattip:

I mean, they admitted to their mistake, found you a truck of your liking and tried to make things right. I'd be pissed I waited an extra month, but it sounds like you weren't in a hurry for your truck either or you'd be calling every day nearing the 2 month mark.

I'm also surprised they gave you a trade in value before the day of the trade in since anything could have happened.

Uh, no. OP posted late at night and then signed off. Will probably check in the morning, and then decide if they want to stick around when they are not being heavily affirmed.

The poster you quoted seems to favor buying branded titles vehicles. Not even in the same ballpark as buying something new off the lot and trying to negotiate lmao. I agree, No dealers really entertain price negotiations currently unless it’s a small amount off a used vehicle. They just tell you to pound sand. But I have seen some reports and vids on dealer lots out there starting to become full to the brim of new vehicles that are just too damn expensive for people given the current economy. Maybe we will see that trend start to shift back to knocking prices down and accepting negotiations once more.

Drove past a couple dealer lots today on the way home. Not an empty spot in either of them for their inventory. Things are slowly changing.

Let me preface this by saying I don't like car dealers - any of them. However, they don't owe you anything. You have the right of refusal. Look at it this way. If you were to show up to close the transaction and forgot your credit card or bank info, which delayed the closing, would they have the right to charge YOU more money? If you are upset about their handling of the situation, take your $500 and move on.

A lot of long winded post here. Simply put, the popularity of the Tacoma puts the ball in the dealer's court.

As for myself, about 2 weeks before the 2 month deadline I would have been calling to check on the status of my truck.

And a translation on "On top of this, my wife bought 2 cars there last year (one was short term) and one in 2008. I'm a loyal customer." Was last year 2008?

Threads with "How much should I demand" in the title rarely end well.

But I'll give my assessment. I'd jump on the 2023 at what they offered you since it's what you want.
Here's the kicker....Check out the price increases for the 2024 models. They are insane. Something like $5~8K more than new 2023's. I believe the resale of 2023's will increase more than the increase you are demanding.

    Meh. Get deposit and walk.

I haven't seen a huge shortage lately, and there's a lot to be said about buying one off the lot. If you try to "order one to spec," so to speak, that's when they have you over the barrel. They know it, you know it.

I'd be looking around at existing inventory. Putting deposits down on phantom trucks is for suckers.

In today's world you aren't due anything extra because the truck will sell to someone else tomorrow.
