Soooo I can maybe hear the different timing at shift point 72 mph ; after the gear hits, shifts , the motor seems more grunting and I know these ott tunes have very advanced timing?

I had a 06 350z that I advanced the timing in 4th gear and reminds me of the exact sound. Old Z pulled hard too

I can’t speak for OTT and their programming but you can see my timing advance in the video. The logger polling rate is not good, I’m actually hitting 30 degrees towards the top of each gear. 30 degrees is the maximum I see under wide open throttle.

I was in manual mode starting off to prevent the transmission from upshifting. I was a little late going back to auto mode, she hung onto third gear a little longer than usual. I do find it a little bit weird that the truck won’t automatically shift at redline if you’re in manual mode, it just hangs at redline. Anyway, it’s a great tune, you won’t regret it.

Because it's not actually manual mode, it's a gear limiter. It will never shift beyond the gear you have selected, but will work through any gears below it normally.

If I go into “s mode” and manually select 2nd then floor it to redline it will not upshift to 3rd unless I manually do it or push it back over to drive. This is odd behavior in my book. Never had a vehicle act like this in the past. Not tune related.

That is because the S mode is a gear limiter. Put it in S4 while parked and floor it and it will run all the way up to 4th just like in D, but no higher. It's so you can limit the gearing for situations like downhill scenarios in 4Lo or to lock out the overdrive gears when towing.

Got tuned on Saturday by David at YotaTune @dave82at. I have the OTT v9 with lite / mild throttle response. That's lite with normal driving and mild with the ECT on. I like it. Glad I had it done.

For the tune test drive I drove the same route that I drive every day on my work commute for a good comparison. Much better drive. Shifting is smooth and transmission isn't so eager to get into high gear. Transmission shift points are spot on. No more bogging down or the feeling of being in the wrong gear. Highway driving is great also. Now if I could only fix the torque converter shudder............

Glad to hear you like it. It really is a night and day difference from stock. I wish there was a way for the ECU to not "learn" so it would stay the way it is when first flashed. After awhile it seems to change a little.

Have you ever had your transmission fluid level checked? I get very little shudder in mine.

I do this often. Does it reset the learning?

From what I have learned, if the truck is in S mode, it doesn’t use any learned values. So, if in S6, the truck should behave “normally” without those applied. Kind of like drive, but without the learned behavior.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s how I’ve learned it works.

The way it drives in this mode is how I really like it. I've got a second gen though so I have manual 1-4 and then Drive.

Yes I have. Did it this past summer. Well, my buddy did it. He owns a garage and is familiar with the general procedure. Although he's never done a Tacoma until mine. Don't know if the fluid was low or not. We just followed the procedure. Added a quart and then get up to temp etc.

I will say that doing the fluid check has definitely reduced the torque converter shudder but I can still feel it at times. It's subtle but it's there. I notice it when the transmission is just about to change gears and maybe at too low of a rpm for the speed and load the transmission is under. Say for example when I just start going up a hill and the truck needs to change gears. There's a little hesitation and a shudder. Goes away when the transmission drops a gear. Some say give it more gas but that's not alway possible when you're in traffic.

I've only driven about 50 km since the tune so I'm hoping the tune will help further eliminate / reduce the shudder with the better shift points and slightly higher RPMs.

Hey folks, I have just rolled 10k on mine and had the OTT mild/spicy flashed when it was new, somewhere around 500 miles. My other half really does not like the lurch-forward effect from a dead stop. I have learned how to moderate the pedal easy enough to where I have gotten used to it. She drives her car most of the time, but every time she does drive my truck, she complains. We both like the smoother shifting benefits from the tune. Is there a way to correct this a little? I'm very technical savvy so just need to know what others have done. Thanks in advance.

Probably just flashing it to a medium/mild or something like that would make it more enjoyable for her.

probably not going to be a popular answer.
As mentioned, you can reduce the sensitivity via a re-flash. You can also use a throttle controller. I personally don’t compare my Pedal Commander to a real tune as the tune does so much more than adjust throttle sensitivity. My wife also struggles with the sensitivity, so I put the PC on eco mode and she prefers this. The big thing with any throttle controller is to NEVER adjust modes while pressing the throttle. Always take your foot off before adjusting. Obviously a re-flash is the easier way but it’s perfectly fine to use a PC to desensitize the throttle a bit if needed.

Agree. When I had my PC, I always made sure I put the truck in neutral or park before changing settings. I'm honestly regretting selling it now. I actually enjoyed the way my truck drove better with the PC than with the tune. I'm going to have them make some adjustments after the holidays, but if I can't get it right then I'll just flash it back to factory.

I definitely prefer the tune, but having the ability to customize is nice. I have the more mild throttle setting and turn off the PC for my personal use. You also don’t need to go into neutral, stop the vehicle, or anything besides not pressing the throttle when changing modes. The ecu does like seeing this signal change while on the throttle, it can cause limp mode.

    https://pedalcommander.com/blogs/garage/can-you-change-pedal-commander-modes-while-driving

Edit: I would consider having your tune updated, not sure when you were tuned. When my local tuner was doing mine, maybe 3 or 4 months ago he mentioned revisions to the throttle mapping. Spicy is a bit much for my liking. Like sport + on the PC, which I never used.
