Good luck jumping ship to another brand . My company has had a lot of different trucks and even though every company has there issues . Toyota as a whole is far better in the reliability dept. This comes from real world experience. Are there some good examples of some other brands? Yes of course but overall Toyota kills it in that dept.

Fucking lame. The 7 lbs isn't a big deal, but the 1100rpm is:

In one of the TFL videos they were off road and had to back up a couple times to go around a turn with the increased turn radius.

That single data point doesn't tell the story. The torque curve could be relatively flat and look similar over that entire RPM range for both the AT and MT. We won't know until the dyno results are published.

With the early results of TNGA-F, it seems to me that the individual platforms are not benefitting.

I suspect if the Tacoma team were given free reign to design whatever frame they wanted, we wouldn't have an 18 gallon tank, a 22'+ turn radius and a significantly wider track. But at least Toyota is passing those cost efficiences onto the consumer!

Meanwhile Chevy is running a commercial about how expensive things have become and how they are helping by offering affordable vehicles with the Colorado starting at $30K. Why is Toyota screwing us?

The value at least on the lower and upper levels looks absolutely fucked. I'm hoping enough people pass on these that prices come down or better packages are offered. But it's Toyota, and they seem to have an unlimited supply of fanboys that are convinced Toyota's are the only vehicle capable of making it to the grocery store without breaking down.

There's still a lot I like about the 4th gen. I'll continue to sit on the sidelines until the pricing sorts itself out, if it ever does.

The Extra Cab SR screams "I exist to put a reasonable looking starting price on paper".

I don't see Toyota producing many and bet it gets axed at the midcycle refresh. I'd say the Frontier King Cab is a no brainer over the extra cab SR.

Is it really worth an extra $5K, $8K or $10K over the competition because it may be more reliable? Maybe it’s wiser to just go with the possibly less reliable competition and just trade in every $80K miles?

The SR looks like a stripped down piece of crap too. If you give it 4WD the price jumps to a staggering $35K.

I have seen more than one mention it, they try to mention it in a way to not get them in trouble with Toyota, but I have seen enough mention it to know that it is noticeable.

Don't forget that Toyota is saving production costs by building the Tacoma exclusively in Mexico. Unlike the Tundra that's built in San Antonio. Remeber that when you pay more for a Tacoma than a Tundra.

As we obsess over the things we think all hate about the 4G based on reading stuff on the internet, I have to chuckle to myself. In six months there will be plenty of posts from buyers that are gushing over how awesome the new truck is. And I suspect in the overall scheme of things it will be a big success.

All new vehicle designs are a compromise of hundreds of factors. Toyota, like all manufacturers, try to make those decisions to satisfy the largest percentage of their perceived market. Having said that, I can appreciate people being unhappy about specific design choices that weren't what they wanted.

Seeing all the tundra issues still, coupled with the fact it’s a $56k mid size (better bargain going full size) and worrying about regretting dumping my clean 3rd gen I’m heavily reconsidering taking back my deposit and giving up my allocation to wait it out.

Shifting at 1700 rpm would get old real quick. Manuals I tend to wind them out a bit, so not seeing an issue. As much fussing I did about going to an auto, it short shifts a hell of a lot better than I do. Probably why my 1G gets worse mileage than my 3G.

It most likely be an awesome not so little truck.

Manufactures have it tough, appeasing stricter and stricter government regulations while trying to cater to their customer base.

No matter the platform or manufacturer, we can always nit pick something apart. If you can’t compromise there is always the option of building exactly what you want from the ground up, which is a monumental task. And even then after you finish, you’ll stand back and wish you did certain things differently.
