I was at home, chilling, baby napping, and I suddenly got the urge to change, grab my gloves and....

Taking home a 3' x 3' sheet of 10 gauge so I can cut out a 3' version of that raptor :anonymous:

He's a chill little dude; doesn't cry, isn't bothered by new people or new places while we're out, nothing

Probably the calmest, most chill baby I've ever met :D

I've heard that from every parent ever

Everyone freaking falls in love with him for 2 reasons -

    1 he never cries

2 he has more hair than kids five times older (even girls)

    (He's only 8 months old)

Fortunately it doesn't run in my family or hers; we're full head of hair types and I grow a beard like crazy

My kid's gonna be 13 with a freaking beard

You don't really have to be "good" at welding

The way this works is, it's meant for laser cutting so having cut it out on plasma the slots for everything are larger than called for.

This means all the parts wobble when slotted.

I knew this going in, hence I tack welded it.

It's not difficult at all but 16 gauge, and slots as small as 1/4" or smaller, burn off easily when welded.

That and you literally have to hold pieces in place as you weld them to ensure they're true and straight.

Lastly, little things like the teeth and front claws are super delicate when first cut out.

If none of this scares ya and you're ok with all of that, I can cut one out after I knock some signs out and other misc. items. Just gotta buy some more 16 gauge.

I think I'll pass, seems like itll be more finicky then I want to deal with now.

It came out great for you though

I'm all for making something, and keeping it affordable!

But would hate to make it, send it out, and pieces get burned off if one isn't careful.

I did however....scale one up to cut out over 3' long so :anonymous:

Makes sense, I appreciate it. Is your table even big enough for that?

    It's a 4' x 3' (more like 33") and the big one nested fits onto the 32" x 32" scrap piece I've got

    20231201_104715.jpg

I'd be able to make the 8' version as well seeing as how the longest piece spans under 4' across

Speaking of, just got done creating my profile

    @TacoTuesday603

This is why I mentioned "if you're good at welding" as several of these tabs are less than 3/4"

And what I'll be cutting out here in the next few minutes

I see what you mean, not much heat will turn one of those tabs into a molten ball

Just gotta know what you're doing; I've welded plenty of 20 gauge galvanized along with stainless

Makes welding 16 gauge super easy

Ok, if your shit is not dialed in, do not cut patterns out with tight tolerances!

Fortunately I know wtf I'm doing

    20231219_114106.jpg

This plan was set for 11 gauge (.125)

I scaled it up to fit 10 gauge (.134) with a tolerance of over two hundredths of an inch

    20231219_115640.jpg

This is how clean and practically dross free most of the parts came out

    20231219_114649.jpg

    20231219_114659.jpg

    20231219_114716.jpg

    The achieved tolerance

    20231219_115737.jpg

The parts are loose enough to fit together, but tight enough to hold themselves together

    20231219_114707.jpg

    20231219_114628.jpg

    A total run-time of 18 mins 11 seconds and 64 pierces

Everything shown is right off the table, not a single bit of dross was cleaned off

Already 90% assembled and it's completely held together by being slotted

    20231219_125653.jpg

    20231219_130304.jpg

This is a kit I would not mind cutting and selling, the only pain in the ass part would be packaging it up due to the length of certain pieces
