I don’t think there will be this craze to buy the Tacoma like there was with the Rivian, Lightning, Cybertruck, etc. It’s really not some earth shattering new design that anyone other than the extreme Toyota fan bois must have. It’s not really something you buy to impress people either. No one really gives a shit about Tacomas except for other Tacoma owners.

TRD has better tow rating for sure. Other than that I dunno.

I'm gonna add the PreRunner to my "WTF" pile.

Think of it as an SR5 with a rear locker, composite skids, and nicer wheels and grill.

But you are wanting to option anything besides that and don't care about a rear locker, an SR5 is better.

Trade-in info on my deal if anyone is curious and might be considering doing a trade. My truck is a '21 Sport Premium 19k miles with all the options (MSRP $45780). I ran it through all the value my car websites and found a few that said $40-$41k lol. I knew that was way high but hey, we are doing the dance and they will have their turn on the floor. I saved those pages to attach to the document package along with a scan of the original window sticker. I asked for $40.5k trade-in value lol.

They came back with $36k, which in this market is not bad IMO. Their advertised price was invoice (I know they are still making money at invoice). She said in her offer they couldn't do better on the trade, but they discounted the GX another $1300ish dollars for a total discount of $6500.

The other offers I received weren't close. This dealer is the largest in the region and they had 50 GX's in stock or on the way. They probably sold more cars in a month than the other five I talked to combined.

At that point I figured I my dumb old hillbilly ass wasn't going to do much better. Thought it over one last time and decided to buy it. Called her up and said we were $500 from making a deal. She said she would get them to discount the GX another $500 or add it to the trade and call me back with confirmation. When she called back to confirm she said she got them to add it to the trade value. So theoretically at least I got $36.5k for my trade.

With their offer they said they had a '21 TRD Pro with 19k miles on the lot for $42k that had been there over a month. I verified that on their website. It's actually a really nice looking Lunar Rock Pro.

Yeah, used prices are cratering. Carmax offer on my jeep went from 25K to 21.7K in 3 weeks.

My thought process at this point is that 4 things have to be satisfied for me to buy a 4th Gen:

    1. I will not compromise and settle for a truck that isn't exactly what I want. Willing to wait however long that takes.
    2. I will not pay full MSRP, let alone a markup.
    3. I will not pay ANY dealer add-ons/addenda.
    4. I will get fair market value for my trade. This has been a major issue when shopping it around, so I may look at selling it privately.

Sounds like you will never buy a new vehicle then.

Nothing wrong with having goals when buying, sometimes you gotta roll with the punches though.

Once the fanbois buy theirs at MSRP, the high interest rates are going to push buyers away. I'll have one at these terms before the end of 2024-watch me!

Better tow rating, locker and better wheels isn't bad. Real shame about losing the AC doors though. That and the 8k premium make it a hard sell. They will be the rarest trim I see for sure anyways.

2nd gen prerunners are still around, but very uncommon.

$50,297 is about the cheapest TRD OR I can spec and be happy with. ORLB + $4700 option or so. Looks like it lacks heated seats though? $5870 gets me the same plus the SDM though...

Heated seats are available on a cheaper package, but it lacks the powered slider. The heated seats disappear until the $8800 upgrade which I have no interest in. Not sure if I am reading it right.

I added heated seats to my current truck, surprisingly easy. Guess I can do it again.

What am I missing here? Just add the upgrade package and get the heated seats and rear window.

Power slider is only available on the package @$4640 if I am reading it correctly. Heated seats aren't part of that.
