I thought about trading my 2023 Tacoma TRD Sport for a 4Runner. They offered me $30k for my Tacoma. I got up and left.

    trade in works like this

used car dept, trade in appraisals
find a car, person doing this knows nothing about cars
    get it cheap as fuck
if it's not, don't get it
send it to the shop, used car tech. Inspect it, catalog what's wrong with it
see how hard it is to sell, given used, not brand of that dealer, needs work on top of that
flip for a couple grand. If not possible, send it over to auction for cheap to get rid of it

If a person has a vehicle of value, they do not trade it. They sell it, and possibly put money down from that sale onto purchase of next vehicle to reduce monthly payment.

dealer does not have to accept trade
and there is so many to accept, that not accepting one makes no difference

really not their bread in butter nor big difference maker
all kinds of regulatory requirements with "flipping" a used car for a couple grand,
must pass smog, tires must be above certain tread depth, etc.
headache dealer would not deal with by simply selling a new car

you sell a used car to the public
guy pays market value for car he wants
trade in there is none of that. The only goal is profit to justify positions of that department.

I wonder what the most a dealer would pay for a truck in the same condition as yours? They aren't going to have any trouble selling a new 4R, they'd probably give you more on trade for a new Tacoma.

Branded title as in salvage title? I don't recommend that for many reasons.

Yeah... and I've tested out those reasons. But I doubt you have.

Some are more or less worth thinking about, but most are more smoke than fire. I'll take my truck for what it cost me any day over what you'd pay for one with a clean title.

Some of my customers exclusively buy branded title vehicles. And honestly most of them end up being pretty good

I bought back my E36 when it got 'totalled' and had a salvage title.
I managed to take out the cats which OEM cost what the vehicle was worth at the time..

Bought it back, bought aftermarket cats, new clutch, new exhaust for 0$ outta pocket and put another 100K on the car - if you know what you are doing, it can work out real well.

I don't buy new cars for a reason.

Never had an issue with any of the used vehicles I have ever bought.
Patience during the shopping/purchase process really does pay off.

Insurance and resell issues come to mind with salvage title vehicles. There's good examples of used cars for sale, but they're few and far between and you'll pay a premium for them. Goonzquad does some impressive transformations with salvage vehicles on their YouTube channel.

There's an a** for every seat and used cars are like used underwear. Sure you can wash them out and parade them around, but do you really want to?

Well personally, I don't parade around in my underwear. But if that's your thing, you do you.

There are lots of people that think new cars are the only way to go. Are you trading in vehicles because you've abused them to death... or because you found something else you can't live without? I'd bet the latter. That perfectly good vehicle you just traded in for a percentage of it's real value gets sold to someone for whatever they will pay. In most cases way too much. But it's still a good ride. Most cars that get traded in are vanity trades to upgrade to something that isn't really needed, just wanted.

You would be better to go with the Ford Ranger. The Ford dealerships are a notch better. So consider the 500 bucks a good lesson learned.

I bought my Tacoma from the local Ford dealership, with 15,000 miles on it. I bought a Camry for my wife, long time ago, but what a game playing f-ing nightmare. I understand you sell a great product but "dude" I am the customer. Remember the customer? That is me....anyways. Never bought another Toyota new, just never did probably never will.

Don't blame Toyota. Blame the dealership. They are not the same thing. I've seen shit dealerships in multiple brands, and I've seen a couple good ones in a couple brands as well.

I agree to a point. I have only been to a few Toyota dealerships. They, so far, treat me like what can I do for them? I have been to, I don't know we will say many Ford dealerships, and they seem to be more customer friendly. I get it Toyota is selling a better product.
