It’s good that Toyota listens to their customers. I am a second gen owner and didn’t pull the trigger on the 3rd gen I didn’t like it much.
I like the 4th gen and I am itching for one. I usually avoid buying the first couple of years of an all new vehicle. I don’t know though about this one.

What cost savings in the Tacoma? The pricing is sky high.

Cost savings to the manufacturer, not to the consumer.....thats the name of the game, build for as little as possible and sell for as much as possible.

Funny isn't it. Covid shortages, BIG 3 push up MSRP's, big profits for them and dealers, UAW takes their vig, lots overflowing, crash. Then you have fake headlines e.g. Reuters on November 1st "Toyota rides weak yen, demand for hybrids to post blowout profit". "The world's top-selling automaker reported a record operating profit of 1.44 trillion yen ($9.5 billion) in the three months to end-September, ..." Nah, they just pushed up prices because the market had headroom because of the BIG 3. The correction has started already for full size trucks. Can we start calling it the BIG 2? Stellantis are garbage.

Meanwhile, we have fanboys telling us what a great deal the gen4 is at the price. LOL. Sure, it has more 'gadget stuff'. My home TV got bigger and cheaper. Don't confuse "gadget stuff" with cost. Coming full circle, the engine is more powerful, but does it cost more? "Record profits."

Don't forget the shared TNGA platform that should also be decreasing costs for Toyota that we will not see passed onto us consumers.

Yeah except you can now get full sizes for $45k or less no problem.

Mid-sizes used to be properly priced for getting much less truck.

The new gen taco is up ~20% in price. Meanwhile, back in reality, the YoY CPI for November was 3.1%, and new cars were only 1.3% YoY.

The problem is people are buying the overpriced products and nothing stopping them. Big companies study the market and make prices accordingly. High end Tacoma is like a toy. If you want a toy you pay top dollar.
Isn’t crazy that a top end RZR side by side is over 40k? Talking about cheaply built over priced products. Go figure.

Beyond the testing they did, he's talking about his "expected" reliability.

I question the reliability of the engine, if it's used the way I use my Gen 3 ... about 50% towing duties of 4,000 lbs at max payload.

I'm convinced the Gen 4 will tow better, if for no other reason than transmission/gearing fixes the Gen 3 needed. But what about the motor at 100,000 miles? 150,000 miles.

A more highly stressed engine is going to wear more than a low stressed one ... all else being equal. All else isn't equal, but the engineer didn't come close to addressing my concern. I don't think it can be addressed until enough vehicles get used with enough actual miles.

We'll see. In the meantime, I can't be a customer because I expect to be paid to test things.

They paid engineers for the 3G to do that. And they paid engineers for the 4G to do that. You paid them by purchasing the vehicle.

The new motor turns a helluva lot slower than the old V6. That means a lot when it comes to longevity.

By this logic, you should have been clamoring for an 8:1 compression engine instead of the “highly stressed” 11:1 compression one that you bought. After all, it’s going to wear so fast!

Or, we design engines for the stresses they endure.

So far the engineers are earning their pay.

The Dynamic Force engine family started shipping in 2017, the V35A had a manufacturing problem with Toyota again illustrating the traction of standing behind product. T24A shipped in 2021 and the Sheldon Brown videos also contain comments and illustrations on the light truck version having a 55% difference in parts for it to be light truck capable. Well more than 100,000 of gen 4 have shipped now (months ago). 2025 is essentially unchanged. Still, nothing can make these older than they are.

If you are towing 4000 lbs 1/2 the time, from experience I'd not want the prior gen I've had and maybe not consider a Tacoma at all. Still, my work and task oriented TRD OR long bed is far superior. It doesn't hunt for gears like the 1990s through 3rd gen nor scream in pain if climbing.
