If he's talking about the, "Traded the truck in last year with all my super awesome m0dz, collecting dust, 750 you pay shipping not a penny less or it's going in the trash this weekend" posts...I mean, those are kind of irritatingly funny depending on how badly you want the item they're selling..until you realize they need that $750 for the year old credit card balance they're still chipping away at, cuz m0dz.

I’ve got to throw another 2 pesos into the ring but go the other way. You put something up for sale that is barely used for half or slightly less than half the price of new and someone asks if you’d take less than a tenth of the cost for it….

somewhere around 2008, mitsubishi used to have an "owners day" event at their factory in illinois. at the time, i had a 2001 eclipse, and went every year.

they must've come across some forgotten wheels in a back warehouse somewhere, as they had 4 full pallets of eclipse wheels they were raffling off to anyone that attended. show up, get a ticket.

as they're announcing the raffle numbers, the 4 guys in front of me, all EVO owners, 2 win a full set of 4 wheels. one turns around immediately, as he knows i had an eclipse. he offers to sell me those wheels for $1200. he was serious.

    money whores be money whores.

Not sure which he’s talking about, but I assume the 2020+ head units since those are somewhat desirable because they have CarPlay. Those are routinely listed around $700+ on this site and others.

Not sure he’s talking about a pre-2020 pullout, particularly an SR5 one going for $100.

Probably could have been more specific.

I think the general frustration is people asking seemingly too much for what are used parts. You could make the case that a radio doesn’t depreciate in the same way that drive components do, but either way generally speaking when in the used market things are much cheaper. Head units, among other things, seem to defy that logic.

It’s somewhat frustrating when people ask for new prices (like $400 for a pro grille) on what are used items. Are people allowed to ask what they want? Yes. But OP is still allowed to have an opinion on it.

You can disagree with OP, but I don’t think it’s an unreasonable position and I don’t think he’s trolling.

This is a great community, I just very recently received 4 brand new center caps from a VERY generous member here, he even paid the shipping to me.
When I dig up some spare oem takeoff parts I have, I am certainly going to pay it forward to the great people here.

You can always order one from Toyota and tell them they are scumbags.

So you are wanting to buy a take off part for $100 or so when the same part from the dealer is $5000? Sounds like people selling them for $500-800 is an amazing deal if you want OEM

lol it’s a little ridiculous to pretend like $5000 is a real price for a head unit that costs probably less than $200 to mass produce.

I don’t think the reference point is the inflated dealership prices, but what is the head unit market generally priced at, which is usually $300-$1000 for a decent aftermarket one.

Don't get confused between Cost and Worth.

Nobody forced OP to buy one and nobody is gonna get hurting without having one.

I waited a long time, bought one here, and the adapter loom, paid a decent price after passing on many, still it was a lot more then 200 bucks.

The value of swapping the head unit with a newer OEM one is the swapping part. It literally took me 5 minutes start to finish while seamlessly retaining all the steering wheel control and most of the dash display. I didn't pay another $400 to someone to cut, or splice the factory wiring. I keep my original radio which I can change mine back to factory status in 5 minutes by myself if I decided to sell down the road.

I was hoping OP had a nicer house,,, I was gonna lean on him for an upgrade at a TW discounted price, since I have donated items.

I'm still trying to unload the AM/FM/Cassette deck that came out of my 72 Vega Hatchback. I know there's a buyer out there somewhere.

I had a guy looking to buy one of my square body Chevys with a built 454 tell me that he couldn't pay me asking price because he was looking to turn around and resell it and he wouldn't see enough profit margin. That bit of honesty shut my thinking down for a second.

Wait what? I should sell something below fair market value so you can benefit? Fuck off. Speaking of which... I have this sweet tape deck and some tasty tracks if any of you beard having, Pabst drinking, anything retro is better thinking hipsters want to part with $1200 + shipping.

    IMG_6467.jpg

Only kidding boys. Not selling the tape deck. The looks I get in airports when I bust this out are priceless.

I find it pretty selfish when someone thinks they should get my stuff for pennies on the dollar just because I'm done using it, when in reality I paid a ton of money to get away from that item, and would like to recoup some cost.

Don't like the price, don't buy it. Nobody owes you anything for cheap just because they're removed stock parts.

Depends on the route you go of course, but many of the aftermarket head units are $900, $1000, or even sometimes $1,800. Then you add in the $2-300 Maestro or similar, the associated wiring harnesses and adapters, and it becomes an expensive project quick.

I personally didn't list my old stock radio for sale because I wanted to have it on hand to reinstall in case I sold the truck. While my aftermarket stuff is way better functionally, the truck looks better in ads with the stock radio in there. That said, to spend all the money on the aftermarket stuff and turn around be expected to sell the stock radio for super cheap ($100 or less) is just plain insulting. Meanwhile if folks want the better factory radio, why can't they pay $4-500 for it? To buy one from Toyota is significantly more money anyways. Toyota seriously has some of them listed for $5K on the website. Lol.

I agree, the aftermarket stuff gets expensive fast. And I have hung onto a lot of my stack parts, IF, I ever sell my truck. But 7 years in, I doubt that will happen now. Like it too much. I think $400 is reasonable for the stock radio. Plus the $200 harness to make it work for CarPlay. But paying $700-800 for a stock radio and adapter harness, and you are getting into aftermarket radio range. So might as well go that route.

I never said $100 for one, or would never expect to find one that cheap. But the ones people want $700-800 for is a bit much. You can get them from CoPart all day in the $500 range.
