That's when commercials were well written.

Have to pay for the R&D plus make profits somehow, and probably blame forums like these for making the Tacoma so popular.

When I started driving Toyotas, was made fun of for owning “Jap Crap”. Now look at them.

Plus Toyota probably looks at market pricing, look at the starting price of a Canyon Denali. They figure if customers are willing to spend $54k on a Canyon Denali they'll spend it on a Tacoma Limited. Why discount it if you don't have to.

    Yep.

Apparently there is far more demand for luxo barges than there are basic base models. Far fewer cheap SOBs like myself.

I think there are too many people that are financially irresponsible and put themselves into debt up to their eyeballs?

Lol! Pretty much! I don’t like being debt for one thing, the other don’t need all that fluff, just goes to show you how soft the American male has become. (Though will admit those heated and cooled seats are awfully nice….just too cheap to buy the package to get them)

I don't buy into the whole "I need a long bed diesel truck" to be a man thing. Guess I'm different is all. All the douchebags over in 3G who mock the SB owners because a 5' bed is completely useless is retarded beyond belief.

I find a 5' bed somewhat useless tbh. The 8' on my '02 Tundra is really fantastic. The 6' on my '05 is even small, flatbed will help that.

DCSB to me is like a nice dog hauler for 1-2 pooches. Nice because it's a flat platform. But, in hindsight, the only thing my '16 has which I can't get in a 4Runner is MT. If there is a T4R MT option in the future it's a no brainer to swap. Even so, I heavily consider swapping to a Limited T4R for AWD and comfort. The only thing stopping me is the extensive list of mods to my 3rd gen which I'd be throwing away by making this swap. So, for now at least, I'm staying put I think.

DCSB works well for garaging and its 5’ bed easily accommodates 175 cm skis, so it really depends on your situation and needs.

What is a “man” anyhow, ya know. I grew up in 60s, 70s and 80s trucks. They were barbaric! If driving one of those makes me a “man” I’ll pass.

The whole size of the bed thing is rather ridiculous. yes I make fun it, but don’t think people realize I am also making fun of myself…have gotten a lot softer as I age vs when I was young. Used to shovel concrete for a living, now have a cushy inside job. :)

5’ bed won’t work for me, because my cot won’t fit for camping, and too cheap to buy a wedge camper to make it work. 8’ bed diesel sure would be nice for yanking around an Airstream, though that just shows how soft one is to go camping, while you could do it with a Corolla and a bivy sack. Think the person in the Corolla is the tougher of the two. Ya know!?

Bike packing in the snow is even tougher, total chick thing too!

Not a huge fan of the DCSB, but kinda liking this lifted SR5, could make it work if it came down to it. Would need a topper/RTT, wedge camper, or camp trailer tough.

Yeah, don't really need a truck to haul ski's amiright? 5' bed works for a bicycle if you hang the wheel over the tailgate but so tight on cubic storage that it's still on the "mostly useless" side. I managed to just barely stuff 4 bikes inside mine for a family bike ride not long ago but it was quite tight with the cab high shell and my 6 y/o on the small bike. Once it's 4 real bikes, tailgate will have to stay down and the shell door up to have any hope of fitting.

The garage / length problem is legit. Our house garage sucks on length. I park outside and have to scrape the windshield and get yelled at by the HOA for making the neighborhood look ghetto.

All is advantage T4R, if you're stuck w bikes on the hitch anyway, no real point to that bed.

So, to me, this 5' bed (the '16 is my first ever truck with such a bed) really doesn't do it. If MT DCLB were an option it'd have for sure been the first choice. Even the 6' bed is pretty cozy.

The extra cab/ac 6’ bed has been working for me and quite well for the last 22+ years. Shame they ditched the AC, love the convenience (read getting soft) of those clamshell doors.

So the new XC is out, so it is either the DCSB or the DCLB. Can haul about the same amount of gear, just differently. Pretty much comes down to what wheelbase works better for you.

I really like this one. Looks the best out of everything I’ve seen, imo. I definitely need a DCSB because kids and garage. I’m a little worried about the short bed though, I’ve never had one. Not that I need to haul a bunch of building materials, probably more like furniture at some point. Or camping gear for 4 people, bikes, etc.

Really good tie down points, straps, and a cargo net are important for truck owners. Don’t skimp on those. You’d be amazed at how much utility you can get out of a 5’ bed Tacoma.

And when you need to go beyond it, there’s always U-Haul for a day or weekend.
