I am thinking of getting wider after-market mudguards and install them say 1/4 “ outside the panel. This may solve the issue. I am curious about those folks riding on 275/70 without mudguards. They must be constantly washing off the sprays.

Thanks! I sold them a couple months ago. I liked them too but think they’d look better with more lift and bigger tires.

How much has your MPG been affected by the bigger tire size and weight? I'm looking to go this exact route, and was just curious about how it compared vs stock. Not that its going to affect my purchase after all I bought a truck and not a prius.. :)

To be honest I’m the wrong guy to ask lol. I put the tires on at like 500 miles so my mpgs hadn’t even settled yet on the stock tires. I’m at 5k now and I average about 17 mpg. I drive a good mix of Highway and city. Like you said, it’s a truck. I drove a 100 series before this (RIP) that got about 10-12 so I feel like I’m driving a Camry now gas wise!

Lift and 275s went on my truck at 35k
Lost 1-2 mpg post mods probably closer to 2 mpg in all honesty.

My rig is no longer a commuter thanks to work from home. So smiles per gallon still override mpg

Edit no gear change or tune yet.

Go for the tune next, especially if you have an automatic transmission. KD Max Pro tune will make a night and day difference. Put it on your Christmas list.

Sorry if I’ve missed someone comment about this already, and thanks

For those of you using the SEMA 4Runner wheels, is this the right part? I've attached the link to the wheel part number i'm about to pull the trigger on if its the right one that will fit my 23 TRD sport. The part number is
    PTR20-35110-BK
This is the link to the wheel I found on BAM wholesale for $216.28. Am I correct that this will fit the tacoma even though it doesnt say its for it? I thought some of these wheels for specific years didnt fit the taco.

I see that ExtremeTerrain sells the same wheels for like $255. Thats also the part number they provide for tacoma, and 4 runner. But the item number the company uses is different.

Just want to make sure before I buy these.

That is the right part for the original 4Runner SEMA wheels in Matte black (not the latest version that have fitment issues). They should work perfect.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what the years of these wheels from the 4 runner that DO NOT fit on our trucks? I just want to make sure I dont fool myself and order the wrong thing...

I’m not sure what year the newest version of the 4Runner Pro wheel was introduced (2021?). They have the wrong bore diameter to fit over our Tacoma drums.

They are easy to spot as they have little dimples around the outer edge and are more busy and square looking.

You do not want these 4Runner Pro wheels (note dimples around outer edge):

Ahhhhh I see! I'm not to much of a fan of those wheels either. I have been considering some Method Wheels since Extreme terrain had them on sale last time I checked, but I just dont think I like the look nearlly as much as I do of those SEMA stock 4 runner wheels. I also think later on down the road *IF* I decide to trade it in on a new Tacoma after they've been out a couple of years, having a Toyota brand wheel will be better (or maybe not at all) than an aftermarket wheel for trade in value. I'm saving all my stock parts anyways so I can always put them back on if I trade the truck.

    I thought I would share these before/afters.

'20 TRD Sport, 2" RC leveling kit in front, 1.25" Spidertrax spacers, '21 SEMA 4R 17x8" wheels, 275/70/r17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers.
I removed the air dam and front mud flaps, there was minor rubbing that required minimal trimming at the indicated area in the front. No need for CMC.

I'm very happy with this setup as this is my daily driver and will likely remain a pavement princess with occasional trips to the beach. I have not noticed a difference in MPG or handling.

How many miles have you put on this setup since the install?
What's the width of those wheels?
I wonder if there wouldn't have been any rubbing without the spacers. I'm looking at getting this same tire size on a 2" Bilstein 5100 kit, but I want to go with the SEMA 17x7 +4 offset wheels that are ever so popular for these trucks.

I edited the post to clarify that they are 17x8 with +5 offset.
I only have a few hundred miles on this setup so far but keeping track of my gas mileage -- although it's a truck so not too concerned. I was able to mock up the wheels/tires on the truck in the shop with and without the spacers and, from what we could tell, I don't think there would have been any rubbing without the spacers (mud flaps/air dam were off at that point). I opted for the spacers simply for cosmetic reasons once I saw that installing them would only require one 1"x1" piece to be trimmed.

I have this set up. Bilsteins on the 5th setting and a 1 inch rear block, OEM SEMA 4R wheels but run a 285/70 Toyo AT3s with no rubbing or trimming and I still run the factory mud guards. I did oval out the bottom hole on the guards to slid them back a half inch. 275s are heavy and with the light 285 sl rated tires and light oem wheels my mpgs were not affected and then up graded my tune from KDMAX. I did use the inline calibrator from Hypertech. I'm getting 18 and better if I really baby it. You will be fine with 275s
