New scope is on and after a cleaning and retorqueing everything, I got her shooting frosted minutes of wheat. Shots 1 and 2 were at 15 yards getting on paper and making a few adjustments, 3 and 4 were at 25 (elevation adjusted between those two shots) 5 and 6 were 100 yards (no adjustment between those two) elevation down 6 clicks then shots 7 and 8 were fired, again at 100, and finally 9 and 10 were fired at 50 yards. The middle "D's" in shredded were the aim points for 100 and 50 yards shots. Ball parking 3 MOA... Which is significantly better than paper plate (10?) MOA like it was a month ago. I'm gonna clean it again and call it an under 100 yards gun for the record the year.

Finished them this morning and thought it was fitting.i had hoped having multiple letters to aim at would give me plenty of areas to see what all was going on, but I either haven't got used to my new contacts or there isn't enough contrast in the box, because I could just barely see the inside of those ds at 100 yards and of course my reticle covered it completely. Looked great at 50 though

Strike three here on a good buck that has taken up on the farm in late season. Bumped him last week Thursday eve on way in from privet strip along creek at a five point conversion of edge, creek, hedgerows and a couple wood lots all in cow pasture with cows daily. Didn’t blow out, trotted off and stopped to low huff a couple times. Was slipping up creek had wind and pretty sure he didn’t know what I was, maybe thought a cow. Only got a brief glimpse of him through brush. Snort wheezed at him and seemed as if he was about to come back. Found rubs as big as leg and hunted right there to dark.

Next trip, Saturday morn, went in there well before daylight slipping in dark. Same deal, heard him trot off huffing, not blowing, about 50yds as I slipped up creek. Had wind again. Saw a doe and shot Yote. Dragged it out at 11am and found two big scrapes about 100yds down creek as if buck checking them late eve on way to more open ground, night roaming I guess. Sunday was big rain event so got a reset.

Yesterday eve I slipped into spot where I saw scrapes on privet edge, same wood lots, small pasture and edge cover around, just down creek 150yds. Walked 15yds further trying to get a better tree and vantage but most were beaver ringed a few years back and suspect to climb. Walked back 10 yards on edge to good sweet gum to climb and he bumps out of bed in privet strip along creek 15yds from scrapes, 50yds from me. Again, had wind and he had to have heard me those last 15yds, not sure if he saw. He sloshed across creek and I got brief glimpse of big tan body as he trotted up a wood line leaving. Saddled up tree after waiting a bit. 6 does came down creek at dusk and lingered at scrape as if looking for him.

Next trip I am sitting across adjacent pasture at daylight with .308 hoping to catch him slipping down creek between those two spots. No idea on what head gear looks like but guessing this is an old hermit buck that’s been running under the radar. I just want to see him. If I don’t by the season close I will put the couple yard cameras I got up there in those spots.

I guess I would wonder what projectile, powder, and load your shooting. Because that gun doesn't seem to like it very much. I had a Thompson Center Encore that was very much like that. It would shoot a couple loads very accurately, almost everything else it would scatter all over the place. I ended up selling it and getting a Thompson Center lmpact. Although it is a "cheap" gun compared to the Encore it is a tack driver with almost anything I put in it. I have no problem getting less than 1-in groups at 100 yards out of it. As a bonus it is shorter, lighter, and easier handling than the Encore.

Remington corelokt 100 gr PSP... It's ate them just fine (moa or better) for 12 years now (well maybe minus a couple years in the middle when I couldn't find them and or they were twice what they should have been so I shot ppu 100 gr sp) the last two boxes I bought were the first that have came since federal bought out Remington (and now that has been bought by some guy in eastern europe), but I asked a guy that kinda has an inside lane at Remington ammunition (he is partially sponsored by them for his yt channel) and he said if anything, quality has gone up. I'm gonna try and reload some next week to see if I can get any better groups with a different combo. Fwiw my wife's decided it didn't like them as much as in years past but it still holds them at 2moa ish. Sorry if there are a bunch of typos my phone's has been going nuts the whole time I was typing this.

Holy s***, that's a rifle? I'm sorry, because of the time of year I assumed it was a muzzleloader. But that almost makes it worse actually. Honestly no offense intended but that's a piss poor group. Personally myself, the first thing I would look at would be that scope. Because I don't think it's possible for a rifle, unless the rifling is blown out, to shoot that poorly.

Yeah I swapped scopes because it was shooting like 8" groups. I've been googling how many shots a .243 barrel is good for and people who shoot comp are getting ~2000 rounds and they put way more stress on theirs than me. I probably average a box per year so I should be sub 300 rounds. After the 8" groups I cleaned it (it was pretty gross) and now I'm just hoping it needs a little fouling to get the riflings "reseasoned". At any rate 3" is way better than 8" so it did at least go from "unusable" to "pretty bad"
