What makes hybrids more likely to catch fire the presence of gasoline or the presence of what ever chemistry the battery is made of?

I leased an EV recently and so far I am pretty impressed with it. It suits my driving needs very well as I only drive 5,000-6,500 miles a year. I charge every other week at the charging station and it’s free with the lease so…

All and all I’m locked in for 3 years and we will see how successful this ev push becomes. I have had my doubts but I am surprisingly satisfied.

I have some plans for a rental I have to convert it into a short term rental and a niche market might be to have the solar/ ev charger “green” aspect.

If you can’t beat them you might as well exploit them. :D

I grew up in Detroit, I’m a car guy, love the smell. But I’m digging these EV’s, some pretty cool options. Like solar charging, night time charging. They make great sense for vehicles that only get used for daytime operation.

Am I reading that chart wrong? Looks like total fires for gasoline at 200k vs 16k for hybrid. And less than 100 for EV

VW ID.4 in preparation for the Buzz that’s due to come to the USA within a year.
They should sort out issues by year 2 so that would be in line for my lease to end and swap over to that one. :rasta:

I haven't heard that most car fires come from vandalism, but if it is the vandals are focusing on hybrids and gas cars. I've personally seen a handful of car fires and they've always been gas cars on the roadside.

EV fires are so rare that every single one of them gets reported. Edit - everything else is a poorly reasoned response to a BS infographic. I go into more detail below.

If 52 is correct, that's one a week. And, if 199,533 is correct for gas fires that 546 per day! Think about it, in one day there are 10 times more gas car fires than an entire year's worth of EV fires. lol If the news reported that they would need a 24x7 gas car fire channel.
