The solid state batteries Toyota has been claiming are 2-3 years away for the past decade? That shit is vaporware for investors to cope with the fact Toyota has fallen behind in the relatively new BEV market, which is the same reason their CEO got ousted this year.

I thought about the ridgeline and drove it, the ride was insufferable to me. I'm also not a large person, but felt awkward in that truck

I've been comparing the Colorado and Tacoma, too. To clear up a few things:
    1. The Trail Boss and Z71 both come with autolocking rear diff as standard. No packages needed. But I prefer the ZR2 electronic rear and front diffs over the G80 auto locking rear differ. The G80 is uber durable, but it takes some wheel spin to engage and then quick disengages when you let off the throttle. I want more control than the G80 can provide.
    2. The roof on the 2023 Colorado ripples in automated car washes (dryers), which isn't good and is totally unacceptable. It's a non-issue for 2024. Chevy has already addressed the problem for current and future builds. Not sure what they'll do for the older 2023 orders as a retrofit fix.
    3. The Colorado has some electronic teething issues, particularly with the over-the-air updates getting stuck and draining the battery. It looks like they have this sorted, but time will tell. The driver safety and automatic driver functions are glitchy and I'm waiting for Chevy to really address the problems before I plunk down my cash. Looks like everything is software related, and being a Tesla owner, I know how much the vehicle can improve with updates, so I'm hopeful Chevy will get these issues worked out.

I've owned a few Toyotas and never a Chevy, but I'm leaning towards the Colorado ZR2, particularly after seeing Toyota's pricing. Ranger Raptor would be an option, too, if one could actually be purchased. Watching how Ford has handled the Bronco I'm doubtful Raptors will be available for a very long time. I'm scanning these boards hoping to learn more about the Tacoma before committing to any option.

I thought it was a recall for cracking roofs?

That’s the first time I’ve heard someone dislike the Ridgeline.

It’s probably going to be a few weeks before there is a legit owner here.

I am leaning towards the chevy as well. Ford is a complete non starter for me, personal vendetta, long story lol. My biggest fear with waiting for chevy's is all the rumors of GM doing subscription based everything.... like i don't want to pay a monthly fee to use the tech in my car/truck.

The air dryers of car washes are pushing then roofs in. The fix is to get a plunger and pull it out.

I hear ya' about the subscription thing. I feal the same and I'm afraid all the manufacturers are itching to implement it. On the Ford thing, my company had standardized on Ford F250 and F350 diesel trucks for more than a decade, but we're paying a fortune in repairs when they hit 100K miles. Sensors, EGRs, and gaskets are adding up, sometimes as high as $10K and never less than $5K during a service visit. We're done. Moving on to Ram and hoping the Cummins treats us a little better.

What would keep me away from the Ranger Raptor is if Ford uses a wet belt to drive the oil pump. Non starter for me. The 2.7TT has it, but I can't find any info on the 3.0TT

ford for me is "fix or repair daily" and i will never again be a part of that lol. I'm going to end up having to hack my own cars software in order to not pay a subscription in the future, which the fact i have to even have that as a thought is sad

No doubt all the manufacturers want the monthly subscription model. But there is more to it than just a bunch of evil greedy executives wanting to fleece the customers (not saying that isn't art of it though lol).

All this new tech requires a cellular data link from the vehicle. It's not free to the manufacturer. The cost over the free trial period is baked into the price of the vehicle. Beyond that period someone has to pay to keep it going. Is it worth it to you to maintain the connectivity features?

For me, no. We don't pay for the Tesla connectivity. I'd rather use what I already pay for: my cell connection and at-home wifi. But I understand the decision is up to the individual and there are many who will pay.

And I do think there's a big difference between paying for the cellular link, and paying $18 monthly to keep your seat heaters active (F you BMW).

I agree with you 100%. We decided not to pay for the connected services after the free period expired. Not worth it to us and I'm sure a lot of other people feel the same way.

Went from 21 TRDOR to 23 Silverado 1500 (not a Colorado...but Chevy) and GM has really done a great job with the interior refresh. I had 2-3 issues with the tech package during first week with OTA updates, but no problem for past 6 months. I miss the mid-size, if I ever get rid of my JK and no longer need to tow that much, I'll be back in mid-size and will 100% go with Colorado over Tacoma, simply for price.

I have the 5.3. I really wanted the 3.0 Duramax, but I don’t drive enough to properly maintain the diesel. I’m a little afraid of the DFM system, but I previously had a 2010 5.3 with AFM for 100k miles without issue…fingers crossed.

I had a 3.0 for a short while. Was offered stupid money so I sold it, I drove 60 miles a day round trip all highway so it was a good environment for it. I find myself looking at Trail Boss Duramax trucks since a used one goes for about what a 4G Tacoma runs. Also considering a ZR2 Silverado since the 6.2 on 33” gets the same mpg as my Tacoma

I always recommend to buy a little more truck than you think you need. Life creep happens, kids come along, great deal on a trailer pops up, etc. I love Toyota, sometimes kick myself for not grabbing a 21 Tundra…but as a consumer, the cost of 4G just isn’t worth what you get for the dollar compared to others. I drove every half ton with every engine combo available before settling on the Chevy…it was he best performance:dollar combo available. Hope it doesn’t bite me!

Did you hear anything about the roof leaks? Did the 23's finally solve the problem? I'm still not sure if it was the spoiler mounts or the rear window slider was the cause. Thats the only thing keeping me a way from a chevy/gmc 1500.

Never heard of it...don't have a sliding window. I go through car wash weekly here in Idaho, the top doesn't dent/bow. Sorry...that's a new complaint nobody on Chevy/GM boards are discussing.
