It really is about either habit or money i think. I've been filling my tank when it hits half empty for years now. I got tons of money and I just like the feeling of having plenty of gas in my tank. But I do remember the lean days of my youth when I surived on Campbell Chunky Soup and the $2.00 "fill up" was the norm.

He makes more money now, so puts $6 in each time. So he gets three times the amount of gas these days.... right? Right??:bananadead:

Won't do much good if it doesn't stay pressurized though for the injectors. Without the fuel pump feeding fresh fuel past the check valve, the remaining pressure will drop off quickly, and not enough fuel will be delivered giving a lean burn, though arguable for a very few cycles. In tank fuel pumps are often cooled by the fuel running thru then, and the pump materials themselves are lubricated by the fuel. Running a fuel pump dry risks ruining it in short order.

    Work in progress...
You are right, so the OP could not have been under power when reaching the fuel station if the tank is only 21 gallons. Maybe it's 21.5 or something but they were cutting it close for sure.

Former brother-in-law used to try to completely empty the tank so he had all “fresh” gas for his car. Ran dry in the night in the middle of the Everglades bringing nephew home from soccer. Tried having the 9-year old steer while he pushed, but eventually gave up and called his wife for help.
She brought him a couple of gallons, but took the kid with her when she departed. Alligators were spotted, but remained otherwise uninvolved.

That wasn’t what ended the marriage, but it sure helped.

Just saying, that warning light is there for a reason…..

oh i miss the cheaper days. heck I remember my first car. putting $25 in and having almost a whole tank. but a 21 gallon tank in my first car was cool. think my first fill was like $1.30 something a gallon

99 cents a gallon for about 2 months in Buckley, Wa when I got my license at 16. Never saw it below a dollar again

20$ a week in my little 1991 Honda Civic SI and I could drive to any skatepark I wanted after school. Good times
