Shaking issue/tuning

Hey y’all,
I have a couple of questions, I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD sport. my truck is completely bock. Just the other day while driving my truck started to shake about 20 mph and also at the 30 mph so the day before yesterday I went underneath the truck and I greased up all five you joint underneath my truck. This seemed to help but I think it still that TSB bulletin on the transmission issue of shifting. If anybody thinks different, I would love to hear some feedback. But my question was has anybody done any of the tuning to their truck and has it fixed any fishing for gears or shaking?

Looks like you have AT shudder. I’d do a drain and fill trans fluid first before anything else. Looks like the torque converter is on the way out .

 

I did a drain and fill of the transmission fluid at 85,000 miles I’m currently at 113,000 miles. What is torque converter? Because you said it looks like it’s on its way out.

 

Dead weight. I pulled mine, tossed it and never looked back.
You won't need as much transmission fluid afterwards, so some long term savings to be had there too..

Don’t listen to these two. Shudders can be caused by a hundred things.

A torque converter is the viscous coupling between the motor and transmission.

 

Try greasing the zerks on your drive shaft. With a 2016 you should have them. When I start to get a little shudder, greasing them seems to make it go away. I would start there as it's easy and cheap.

 

I did grease the 5 points on the drive shaft.

I missed the bit about greasing in your original post, my bad.

On another note, I had the transmission/gear hunting TSB done (had to pay for it as I was outside the time/mileage limitation) and it didn't seem to change much for me. As far as the shaking and shaking goes, I know some people experience it at low speeds and it is due to driveshaft angle. There is also a TSB for that (not sure if it covers 2016s). I believe the TSB installs some sort of a shim and something to reduce vibration in the steering column.

Yep! My guess is, driving it a bit more and working in that grease will fix the issue.

 

No, I try to have it done every oil change or if not every other oil change.

 

in the beginning when I got the truck, I did do the TSB for the vibration from the fishing gears. It also seem like that didn’t help because it came right back but that wasn’t the beginning when I got the truck.

 

I have tried driving it over the last three days after I greased the you joints. At this point I am scared to drive it anymore and calls anymore damage. I did see a YouTuber. His channel is called West Coast taco, if I’m not mistaken, and he had almost the same issue. He did for oil changes of transmission fluid, and it seemed to resolve most of the issue then he ended up doing a tune which take care of it.

Before you do anything. Put the truck safely on Jack stands and check to see if your u joints are ok . If you hear any play or show any movement they are bad . I’ve seen them go bad and then a vibration will occur . They are an easy fix and not expensive. If one is bad change both . And don’t use that cheap auto zone crap. Factor or the high level moog stuff is good . I think it’s called problem solver from moog. You can buy ones with grease fittings or ones non serviceable

 

I'd have an experienced tech drive this truck. No offense, but you have gone from brakes to transmission shudder,,, get a different perspective, don't even tell them what you think, just tell them how to replicate your complaint.
