Plankowner here, I was actually happier they sank it. It was going to be sold to Turkey and that just didn't feel right to me.

Real sailors wore dungarees! I know the old salts thought we had it easy in the 90s, but my goodness the Navy today is soft. Boot camp is like summer camp. They don't even work in the galley, let alone in the scullery during work week.

    What kind of problems? Data?

    I have 275 70 17 KO2s on 17x9 vision Manx II wheels w/ +12mm offset and have zero issues. Why would 265s have issues on a 17x9?

E3 and below had to do 90 days KP when we got to the ship. But being commissioning crew by the time my turn came I had my crow. So got the pleasure of working Wardroom. I had to learn all the formal crap and serve meals and clean up. I did do a week during my first Christmas in the scullery filling in for holiday leave. I did 5 years 84-90 all on that little ship.

My 265/70/17's with zero offset rub occasionally with 8.5" wheel. I trimmed the mud flaps and since then very few rubs. I spent countless hours researching and cross referencing and quite a few members claim no rub with the exact size tire offset and wheel I have. My 2 cents.

Do you have a lift? I was thinking the 285/65/17 as I do not have a lift, but they are listed as 11.2 wide. Your trruck has the stance I am looking for.

I do have a 2 3/4" lift but I don't think it has as much to do with tire clearance as most people think. I have ICON tubular UCA's that allows an alignment with +4° positive castor, (adjusted at the LCA, very important,) which moves the wheel forward in the wheel well. This, along with the 0 offset wheels is what gives the clearance for the larger tires. IMG_20220523_201755891.jpg

upload_2023-12-23_10-29-16.jpgupload_2023-12-23_10-31-26.jpgAdding an inch per wheel (from stock OR’s)gives me 2” and another inch and a half per the offset gives me 3 1/2” wider stance overall. They only poke out a little but the handling difference is gynormous

Edit: they rubbed a little on my plastic mud flaps so I removed them and they rub very little on super tight slow speed turns but not enough for me to start chopping stuff. I kinda liked the mud guards so I still might mess around with it when I get my steps installed

Shipmate, that is putting a 10.5" wide tire on a 9" wheel. you are asking for curb rash and the potential to lose a bead because the bead doesn't sit properly when stretched that far.

I'm not so sure. First time ever hearing this is from you. Do you have any data to back those claims up? In the street racing world I see 255s on 17x9s that lay rubber and smoke tires (in a good way) without issue. Below are a sample of posts from different forums as the 17x9 question re: tire widths is a common one. I have seen all the way down to 245s on 17x9s in time trial cars that run to the limits of the machine without issue which is why I struggle with your comment about 265s having issues on 17x9. Did someone tell you this? Are you speaking from experience?

Tire manufacturer size specs dictate what wheel sizes will work for a particular tire.
Wheel sizes are classified by diameter and tire bead width.
Tire bead width is independent from overall tire width. Bead width is always narrower than overall tire width to my knowledge.
Offset pertains to pulling in more wheel (positive) or pushing out more wheel (negative) from center (0 offset).
A spacer has the same effect as increasing negative offset by pushing the wheel out.
I put 1" and 1.5" spacers on my stock +25 offset wheels, 265/70r16, to first test wheel well fit/effects and look before getting larger tires and wheels. It is a cheap and easy way to see for yourself and get some baselines.

Never had any issues when I was running 265/70/17 tires on my 17x9 -12 wheel.
