That's a good point. It says this thing is a bag inside there. For those that use, how is it actually pouring in real life? Can you stop / restart without spilling concerns when flopping around? How do you know it's 6 qt to stop? Or do you preload into another container?

ETA: and of course the spillage would be on the conveniently placed belt right below there :woot:

I have a measuring jug that measures quarts and liters. I put the box on a shelf and dispense 3 quarts at a time and pour it into the Taco, twice.
My OCD appreciates seeing the exact amount of oil before it goes in.

Rotella is the lifeblood of the KLR 650! . .

Diesel oil in a motorcycle? Damn straight, for wet clutch big bore thumpers there's nothing better.

    ^ Which one is yours?
Love my 2008, I was bummed to find the 3rd gen had packed on more pounds. I may buy one yet, though.
If you don't need it to anything really well, but last the better part of a lifetime, can't beat the bang for the buck.

The blue 2009 was mine for 38,000 miles, then I sold it to my buddy when I bought the 2022 Adventure. He had been bugging me for years to sell it to him.
Kawasaki changed just enough for the 2022 that it's way better than the '09. Midrange gearing is better, brakes are better, longer swingarm so it handles better and fuel injection. But at heart it's still the KLR pig we all know and love!

There's nothing more relaxing than an oil thread for kicking back on a cold evening with your adult beverage of choice. Thanks TW.

Hopefully the boring first few feel out rounds are over and we can get down to serious business.

I think Conner aka Buttery Films uses diesel oil in his dirt bikes.

Havoline OW-20 from Walmart. Comes in a 6QT box, usually under $30. Can't get a higher rating on API standards as far as I know.

And if you sent brand new samples of each to Blackstone for analysis you would get a couple that are almost the exact same and the rest different from each other. Because several come from Warren means nothing as they are blended different based on what the distributer wants and is willing to pay.

Any 0w-20 thats under $2.50 a quart , API SP or SN.
Idemitsu, Motul, Lubro-Moly, Mobil 1, Mobile synthetic, Pennzoil Platinum, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Shell car and truck, TropArctic, Castrol Edge, Castrol Syntec, Castrol Edge extented drain, M1 Extended performance, Valvoline Synthetic, Quaker State Ultimate Durability.
I've tried those brands. They all work (4 vehicles in the family).
Pick the one that's $12 or less for 5 quarts, on sale.
Last pick was 15 quarts of Castrol Edge for $25.98+tax.

I've tried Mobil-1, Costco (Kirkland), and Amsoil. Amsoil oil changes are always the least dirty/dark. I stick with Amsoil…pay $25 get a membership and get 25% off any order for 6 months…helps if you do all of your fluids and such…that being said you are probably good with any oil as long as it’s a quality oil…even Costcos Kirkland oil is DexOs rated

Sales and clearances. Keep an eye on bobistheoilguy.com Sales and Rebates forum.
3x 5qt Castrol was from Walmart.com 2 weeks ago. Amazon had Mobil syn (good for 7500 miles) 6 qt case for $17.98 ($14.98 for 5 quarts, but handy for the truck to make the 5+1 oil changes)
Pennzoil runs "buy 10qts, get $25 back" almost every fall and spring. So oil ends up being almost 50% off.
Walmart clearenced out Castrol Edge and Edge ext drain last summer. I bought out 2 Walmarts in 2 different states. Just happen to be on vacation.
Advance Auto and Autozone clearance oil every fall. Idemitsu, Valvoline, M1 Ext drain came from there.
TropArctic was $2.50 a quart for single quarts and and came from Publix, of all places.

It is not as good as it used to be. I used to get synthetic G-Oil (made from beef tallow) for $23 for a 5 quart jug and get a $25 mail in rebate. Those were the good cheap oil days.

Oil does not go bad. Just shake the jug before pouring it in. Last month I put the last jug of Idemitsu 0w-20 into the wive's RAV4. Advance clearanced it 4 years ago. RAV has 111xxx miles and purrs like a happy kitten.
