So ive been wondering if i have a diff lock in my 96 tacoma. I dont have the switch but i can see where it would light up in the dash. I know you can look at your rear diff to see if you have it. Can someone post pics of what it looks like?

^^^If you don't have that then you probably don't...unless the owner before you put one in it. But the light probably wouldnt be on the dash.

Also what is the thing your talking about on the dash? The part you says it would light up? What does that look like?

Instead of the RR diff Button you got there in that picture the last owner put a fog light switch. So it looks like it could have had one.

About the light in the dash, you know when you hit the diff button the light on your dash next to your temp gauge lights up. At a certain angle i can see the RR DIFF.

Is the fog light switch where it is circled or where the RR diff button is...cause most trucks have those on the left for fog light switches and such. I know thats where I mounted my switch, you just take a screw driver or knife and that pops out for a hole so you can mount it.

Go look under the bed at the rear dif...if there's a little thing on the top of the housing and to the left than you have a locker.

But probably not. Although the TRD Pkg didn't start until 1998, the locker was an option in 96 I believe. Having said that It's VERY rare and I've never seen one.

You have to watch the stickers...a lot of trucks have TRD stickers and aren't TRD's. In your case they didn't come out with the TRD Sports until 2nd gen's if IIRC.

I have the exact same truck as you. 1996 TRD. Check thumbnails you can definately see the locker on the diff. On 2nd pic you can see where the line goes up.

In my cab I cannot find the diff lock button for the life of me. Instead I have a "no clutch start button" in the position of rr diff lock in the 2nd post picture.

I wonder if it is because we have Canadian Tacoma's there was a slight difference with some of the design???

    ^^This^^
The locker would be on the front of the diff, not the rear. You do not have a TRD

YES!! You saved me extensive googling/crawling under my truck to take a picture. That's what you're looking for.
