Received a letter for a possible fuel leak on my 3G, said to immediately park it if I smell fumes, who knows how long that will take depending on how backed up the service department is. They were backed up 3-4 weeks just for an oil change there for awhile. Toyota isn’t infallible.

A lot of this is all anecdotal, really won’t know until we physically own one ourselves. I will admit, would be hard to leave the brand. Though almost all of my Toyotas have given me trouble, have file folders full of repair receipts over these past 30 years.

It does. No big secret there. As I stated many times before, would do diesel for the extra range for traveling, as I don’t like stopping much until my destination, or have to worry much plunking along in the back country wondering where the next fuel stop is, not much of itinerary person, more of a flipping a coin at a cross roads type. A guy I know had a diesel 80 series with long range 65 gallon tanks, 1000+ mile range. How awesome would that be?

And yet, you’re cross shopping a subaru for all this hard backcountry exploration

Sure why not? All the “real” exploring is done on single track anyways, whether it be with hiking boots, bicycles or motorcycles. Where these four wheel cages can only dream of going.

You can have both don’t you know…I did have three personal vehicles there for years and years, plus a few motorcycles, and a bunch of bicycles.

Thinking you only can own one vehicle is short sighted. Granted I narrowed it down two because I am tired of taking care of stuff. More about my time spent fussing than money. We used to own a fleet of construction equipment and service vehicles, that does get old. Thank goodness it all has been sold off. I am self employed that grew up in a family owned business, do love running numbers for some reason. And think I am terrible at math.

If real exploration is on foot who cares about 1000 mile range backcountry trucks?

Why not both!? :) Sometimes I like to be on foot other times like to drive plunking along back roads, annnnd other times I like taking naps in my hammock at camp. All depends on the mood. Options are good thing. You may not see that, but that is ok.

Options are great except everyone else’s choice makes no sense to you o_O

And where did I say that specifically to a person on their choices? Don’t give two shits what people buy, but do like to weigh options and discuss it amongst my peers, and looks like a lot of other people do to.

It seems you get upset about that. Not sure why.

These are the kind of posts that crack me up. Toyota is the only reliable manufacturer yet most here trade in their Toyotas every two years. WTF. LOL.

I only traded my 18 because I thought leather would fix my back issue. Plus I fell in love with army green . Now its a I need a longer bed or bigger cab issue . Doubt I will even get a tacoma. Also Toyota has a smaller failure rate then the other guys and they also move quicker when in comes to recalls and issues. Probably due to the issue they had with the yaris killing someone I believe. I would consider ford but the other 2 I don't feel comfortable owning even though the Bison looks amazing but I can't afford it lol

I agree, however Toyotas hold their value which for people like me makes trading in constantly a bit more palatable and I've found their customer care for the most part the best.

Different generation and well out of warranty, not sure why GM would take care of that. Toyota fixing 1st 2nd Gen Tacomas, and Tundra rusty frames out of warranty is just them trying to put fires out. If they didn’t do that, pretty sure a lot of people would leave the brand.

My ‘85 4Runner’s engine seized at 125K. Toyota did nothing. My aunt bought her ‘86 Toyota pickup new, might put 5000/year on it. That thing was always in the shop for a bunch of little stuff. Sure do like Toyotas, but they aren’t perfect. Driving them for 30 years might give me a wider perspective. Only real thing keeping me in a Toyota is their ergonomics fit me better, pretty sure I could get use to something else.

There is a huge difference between my 1G and 3G, grown to hate driving the 1G, while the 3G took awhile for me to like it, and now love it. Assuming the same will happen going to another brand. Though fairly certain I am keeping the 3G since Toyota axed the AC, any new vehicle(s) will be an addition to it.

Feels, test drove that Raptor and it was cool but just didnt feel right, sit in my wife's Lexus or any other Toyota and feels right, its weird. I also know I turn a blind eye when in the Yotas where the Ford and the GM I had for a bit I nit picked everything.

Yeah the other brands are just off ever so slightly, still very nice vehicles. My moms side are all in Toyotas every single one no matter the model feels similar, the control layout is what does it for me, have been driving them for so long it is engrained in me.

That said, have been in a lot of other brand of trucks car pooling with my dirt bike buddies. All very nice trucks, would take some time getting used it, but I could.

Same it is weird…do tend to put up with Toyota’s flaws, simply because I like the brand. The whole reliability thing is mostly lure. If you’re trading in every two years does it really matter anyways?

If Toyotas are so good, then why is the service department always packed with repairs when I get my oil changed? Ya know!? Lol! Think there is too much internet reliability lure keeping people afraid from leaving the brand.

You can drop a truck camper off the truck...(although not as easy as unhooking a travel trailer).

At least you guys have a lemon law....we don't in Canada. Also the engine was well known to be an issue . The vortex or whatever it was called, and I think he was at 110k ....sometime automakers will do something depending how they feel.
