How heavy is that thing? It must be way over the payload rating.

790 lbs dry, up to 960 with all the options.

I'm curious what kind of ridiculous price tag it has.

With all the options, when I climb into the driver’s seat it will be over my trucks’ payload by 25 lbs. No provisions or gear loaded.

My softopper + sleeping platform may not have the space or comfort of one of these campers, but at 1/20 the cost and weight I'll happily live with it. Plus when I'm not using it for camping I don't have to find a place to store it in order to turn my truck back into a truck.

That is all about you really need. And what I currently do. Retiring here in a couple years…so have the look-sees. :)

Just got back from Africa. Toyota has a lot of cool trucks and SUVs they don’t sell in the US.

Only slightly larger than the Hiluxes, probably smaller than a Tacoma. The interior looked like my 2001 Tundra. Rear had a stack of at least 9 leaf springs.
The SUV variant I rode in had a V8 diesel, good power but driver said it got about 14l/100km (about 15 mpg).

Looks cool and I’d be tempted to import one, but a better riding, better interior, and better mpg truck, i.e. the new Tacoma, would make more sense.

Yeah, they had the Pro listed for $42k and were complaining it had sat on the lot for over a month. Oh well, asking and getting are two different things. And I can't complain, they gave me what I wanted for it. I could have tried to sell it myself. Free will decision on my part.

That is the dream rig right there. Ship mine to Maltec for a camper conversion. :)

If someone develops a tune for it, you will get far more than 8hp. These are getting 270 HP on regular fuel, a 93 tune could probably get +50 HP at the wheels fairly easily. The transverse version of this 2.4T (Lexus crossovers) are seeing +40 HP at the wheel on 93 tunes, and those take 93 from the factory

I personally wouldn't because I wouldn't want any issues with warranty possibly getting denied, but this should be the easiest Tacoma to get serious HP gains on just a tune and a few bolt-ons.

Here is a Highlander Dyno chart with 91 and 93 octane tunes

Probably not! That camper has the rear suspension out of an 80 though. :)

My OZ dirt bike buddy works in the mining industry (he goes to Africa a lot) said those things are miserable, and so is the HiLux. He and his brother both have diesel Rangers, said they prefer them over the Toyotas. Guess it is all relative. Always want what you don’t have.

Since that is Toyota’s 1 Ton, the comparable trucks are our 3/4-1 Tons, best riding are the GMs, Ram second, Ford third. Not a huge Ram fan, but the 2500 linked rear is probably a decent compromise as far as ride goes between the three.

Mine has 21k miles on it, no third row. It was hard to find one like that without the useless third row. Ended up finding one 100 miles away in Indianapolis, IN.
